ea Learning is what schoo! is all about. We discover things in books, maps, teachers, and above all, people. It all begins with learning small things, learning to use our hands and minds, to work with other people. We grow within and discover how to overcome our problems, to resist temptations, to help others as well as help ourselves. As we educate our- selves, we prepare our minds and bodies for the future, learning to listen as well as to speak, to forget wrongs and injustices and to remember only the right things in life. All of this learning which seems to take so long is but amoment in comparison to the span of our lives. But this small moment is an important one, for we learn how to be people as we learn to learn even when we don't want to. vii ii Te ies gist

.. and forgetting... Joy and heartbreak, friendship and laughter, grace and awkwardness and remembering are small things that make up a great life. Forgetting is also a part of life. Every one is subject to forgetting small things, big things, the important, the trivial and the obvious. We forget to match our socks, to study for a test, to keep a date, to plan ahead and sometimes we forget to remember what we want to forget. Years from now we shall forget the daily crises that occur now; we shall forget the things that seem most important to us. It seems a shame that we shall forget so many of the good things that happen only once in a lifetime.
