Elass flzstory We the Senuors of 54 are at the top of the long ladder toward that great event our graduatuon Now realuzung our school days are numbered we recall wuth fond memorues all those thungs both large and small whuch have made our hugh school lufe so enuoyable As we shall soon be the Alumnu of Gubsonvulle Hugh we wush to share some of our memorues of the days whuch seemed so many but were far too few ln September l950 suxty fuve excuted and happy Freshmen entered hugh school Under the guudance of Mr Gerald D James our pruncupal Mr I H Vuck ery .lr and Mr Glen Macy our homeroom teachers we quuckly aduusted to the schedule Class offucers chosen un Mr Macys room were Robert Tuckle Glenn Smuth and Irma Walker and un Mr Vuckery s room were Peggy Gerrunger Nancy Greeson and Mary Edna Apple Many of us took part un club actuvutues and several of our classmates began theur athletuc careers whuch wull not soon be forgotten The year seemed to pass slowly but at last ut was over We were glad to have a summer vacatlon September l95'l found forty seven sophomores un the homerooms of Muss Dorus Nance and Mr Frank Randall Durung the furst days of school we chose as our class offucers Glenn Smuth presudent Robert Tuckle vuce presudent Nancy Walker secretary and Roland Shepherd treasurer Members of our class louned un more actuvutues and really became an outstandung part of our hugh school We struggled through Juluus Caesar determuned to pass and most of us dud too May funally rolled around and we found that half of our hugh school days were over We eagerly looked forward to September and our Junuor year ln September 1952 forty three nousy Junuors entered Muss Catherune Chl felles homeroom and found that we had a new pruncupal Mr Martun C Free man Class offucers were Robert Tuckle presudent Howard Ray vuce presudent ung year one event followed another closely Our Junuor Play Lughts Out whuch we shall all long remember was presented on December 5 and 6 Our ruby class rungs whuch we had wauted for so long arruved on March 30 l953 Funally on Aprul 24 our last token to the Senuors the Junuor Senuor Banquet Starlught was guven at the Mayfaur Cafeterua un Greensboro The days flew quuckly and before we realuzed ut one of the best years of our luves was gone September 'IO T953 found us forty two gay and carefree Senuors At last we were at the top We were leaders un many actuvutues beung led ourselves by Muss Estelle Brown Chosen to lead our class were Roland Shepherd presudent Susan Randolph vuce presudent Ann lngle secretary and Bullue Ann Younger treasurer The annual Staff was soon elected and began to work hard on one of the hughlughts of our Senuor Year the publucatuon of the Yell O Jak Caroluna blue and whute were chosen as our class colors the red rose as our class flower and Struve Forward to Seek the Best as our motto On November ll Judy Schoolfueld and Frankue Allred were chosen as our class mascots We began to look forward to our Senuor Play the Junuor Senuor Banquet the Washungton trup Aprul 20 25 and funally our graduatuon on May 31 Now that we shall soon be the Alumnu we realuze as we take our opposute paths un lufe that we shall muss the many good tumes we have had together but we face the future wuth hugh hope and courage beluevung that we shall be able to overcome all truals whuch are un our paths because we have buult a furm foundatuon whule at Gubsonvulle Hugh Now as we go out unto the world we hope we shall be able to do uustuce to our fune school and that someday you wull be able to ount to us the graduate of 54 and say I knew them when ' MARY EDNA APPLE Class Hustoruan Q . u I I , . u , u I I . . . . . . . . , . . .
