It has been this group which has made these twelve years of free public education possible. They have established the rules which make our school run more efficiently. By budgeting the taxpayers money, they have been able to provide us with the necessities for an adequate high school education. We hope that these people will receive their reward for the time and effort which they have spent on us when they see the future success of the members of this graduating class. The free society in which we live can- not work or exist unless everyone in it gets a fair chance to develop whatever abilities he has. Your community has given you that chance. Your education should con- tinue beyond high school and it can continue even though you do not attend formal classes beyond high school. In any work you attempt to do you will find that you need facts and balanced judgment. You have had an opportunity to acquire these. I hope you have profited from this chance, that you will continue to learn, and that your experiences after high school will be con- structively helpful to you and beneficial to the com- munities in which you will live. H. EDGAR RIEGLE G. W. LEFEVER Principal There are unlimited opportunities for young people who complete their high school education this year. Whether you go into the labor market or to college, your success will depend on your attitude toward doing the best job possible. More scholarships to colleges and jobs in industry are available to the young people than ever before. The people who are chosen will be those who have achieved in school and are qualified to compete for these rewards. Our best wishes go with you. G. W. You deserve it! Summary of Games 7 Westminster 28 Hampered by a rash of fumbles in the first three minutes of play, two of which were turned into Owl touchdowns, the Warriors were unable to recover. Gettysburg definitely played a second-half ball game. 0 Shippensburg 0 Gettysburg, although favored, could not break the Grey- hound defense and were held to a 0-O tie. The Warrior cle- fensive squad also played well, holding the Shippensburg star, jones, to little yardage during the evening. 9 Chambersburg 19 Beating the powerful Valley Trojans was more than the gridmen of G-Burg could accomplish. Washabaugh was the outstanding performer for Chambersburg in this contest. Once again the Jones boys never could make up for the first few minutes of play. 24 Mechanicsburg 7 An underdog G-Burg squad invaded and trounced the Wildcats soundly. Joel Riddlemoser led the Battlefield boys to pay dirt with fine passing and play calling. Junior fullback Bob Furney scored three touchdowns and senior halfback Tom Crist put on the finishing touches. 6 Middletown 13 Once again the favored Warriors failed to bring home che bacon. A blocked punt and a fumble in the same period gave the Blue Raiders of Middletown their only scores. G-Burg opened the game fast, moving up the field like greased lightning with Furney scoring. However, the drive stalled and the Raiders took home a victory. 13 Hershey 6 Perhaps the turning point in the 'Warrior campaign showing the real Gettysburg potential was the Hershey game. The Warriors melted a powerful Chocolatetown squad with strong defense and driving offense. Nick Nichols, junior field-general, scored twice with Furney adding a placement. 21 Waynesboro 0 With a drastically changed lineup, the mighty Warriors romped over the Waynesboro Indians. The Indians could neither stand the pounding of the Gettysburg defense nor stop the Warrior ground getters. This was definitely a team victory. 6 Carlisle 13 A large Gettysburg crowd traveled to Carlisle to watch a hard- fought game. This was perhaps one of the finest in the South Penn this year. Bob Furney scored after a recovered fumble. The Warriors played a very good defensive game with two brilliant goal-line stances. 19 Hanover 14 Ben Jonesls Battling Battlefield Boys turned in a magnificent finale against the Nighthawks from Hanover. Captain Gary Maitland romped 62 yards and fired a TD pass to Crist, while Crist polished the job on an end sweep. V o urslty First Row, Left to Right-M. Olson, T. Flynn, H. Bollinger, B. Fair, H.
