Service without personal gain expresses the attitude of the men who comprise the school board. They think not of themselves, but of their community's welfare. To this end they dedicate their time, their talents, and their energy in order to provide the best possible schools that money affords for the boys and girls of the community. To the Class of 1944: Many years ago Sophocles said, Without labor nothing prospersf' A little reflection on past events should be enough to convince anyone of the truth of this statement. Yet, there have always been many people looking for the easy road to success. Crystal gazing or wishful thinking will do nothing to win the war, to establish a lasting peace, or to guide you on the road to success. Such goals are reached only by work and personal application. Certainly you will meet discouragement and dis- appointment, for the road to success is not paved with roses. But, when adversity comes, remember the saying of Sophocles. Best wishes and Godspeed, L. C. KEEFAUVER LLOYD C. KEEFAUVER GUILE W. LEFEVER fp 'fA,g,0l!'.f.f 1' ' ,' ff To the Class of 1944: Every boy and girl leaving high school this year will enter the service of his county. Some will be trained in combat duty, some will be trained to nurse the sick and the wounded, and some will be occupied in producing food and materials. Re- gardless of the type of work, everyone will be work- ing to end this world struggle. Whatever be your job, it will be necessary for you to do it to the best of your ability. If that can be said of you, then you can be called a true American citizen. G. W. To promote physical activity especially out of doors, of a non-competitive as well as competitive, social type. 4. To develop leadership and sportsmanship. The interclass program is an integral part of the physical education program and is usually an outgrowth of the regular class work. The entire program is planned so that the greatest good may result to the greatest number. The captain of each is elected from its own members. Teams compete against other class teams and win for the class as a whole. Then a varsity team is chosen from each class and these compete for school championship. Advantage is taken of the opportunity to use student leaders in the after school program. Members of the G.A.A. Cabinet are eager to assist in officiating, checking the equipment and in keeping the records. The success of an inter- class program is measured in terms of participation by the Students and its contribution to community life. CANNON-AID 1944 G. A. A. With Barbara was her cousin, John Quincy, who had come to take his elderly aunt, Minerva, back home to Boston. Various suspects had been found. There was a mysterious chest to whose ownership a jewelled pin is the only clue, and it is discovered that Dan Winterslip was once a blackbirder. The clearest suspect is -lim Egan, for he hated Dan and was the only man Dan feared. However, john Quincy fell in love with Carlota, the lovely daughter of jim Egan, and together with Chan, they discover that jim is really an English nobleman. After her father's funeral, Barbara left Honolulu to marry her lawyer fiance, Harry Jennison, Dan's lawyer. Many false clues were encountered, but Chan and John found that Harry was the murderer. Harry knew, by reading a letter from Dan to Barbara, that Dan objected, in fact, forbade Barbara to marry Harry. Somehow Dan had learned that Harry was an opium smuggler. The play, directed by Miss Ruth Mcllhenny and Miss Ruth Scott, was the annual senior class play.
