The Battle-rs ended up in a three-way fourth place tie in the Central Conference stand- ings during the 1951 football season. They started out in rather good form by trimming Highmore in a thriller to the tune of 7-0. Then Miller's power house conference champions trampled the Battlers under to the tune of 33-13, after a thrilling first half which ended in a 13-13 tie. The homecoming game was played with Onida and ended in a '0-0' dead- lock, with Battlers on Onida's one yard- stripe. The Battlers then took the measure of Cheyenne 45-19. The home team showed their best brand of ball all season, when Mo- bridge eked them out on a 13-7 score at Mobridge. This game seemed to take all- the fighting spirit out of the Battlers, as they dropped their lst two contests to Eureka and F aulkton by the lopsided margins of 32-7 and 32-13 respectively. Dick Gross and .lim Kaiser were elected co-captains of the 1951 grid team. Q s s X MXN I1 P aa X X X ass X XM Qs Q vs K A SX, S xqxf Sf X Y ,sexi 1 wx FOPTIALL

BattIers completed the 1951-52 basketball season with a record of 11 wins a- gainst 11 losses. When one considers the fact that six of these losses were two of the top rated class B teams in the state, Agar and Onida, it can well be considered a successful campaign. The Battlers showed steady improvement throughout the season, reaching their peak during District Tournament play. They upset highly favored Onida in a thriller, which saw the Bat- tlers come from behind to win in the closing seconds of the game. They then gave Agar, number one rated team in the AP Poll, a real battle in the finals of the tourney, before going down on a 63-60 score. Six seniors will be lost from the squad through graduation this Spring. They are Dwane Jensen, Ed Schlachter, Dick Gross, I.aVerne Meeks, Mert Thommen, and Dick Tays. Dwane ,Iensen and Ed Schlachter were named captains of the 1951-52 Battlers
