Musselman Library We've Come A Long Way Gettysburg college was found- ed by a Lutheran clergyman by the name of Samuel Schmucker 11799-18781. The charter was drawn up on April 27, 1832, es- tablishing the Pennsylvania Col- lege of Gettysburg . Although, it was not until 1921 that the charter was amended to change the name to Gettysburg College. The first curriculum consisted of seven liberal arts courses: gram- mer, logic, rhetoric, arithmetic, geometry, astronomy and music. All cIasses, dormitory areas and dining facilities centered around Pennsylvania Hall. In 1889, Glatfalter Hall was built, but it was not until the 1920's that Gettysburg College began growing at a rapid rate. In the 1920's Weidensall Hall, Briendenbaugh Science Hall, Ed- die Plank Memorial Gymnasium and Schmucker Memorial Li- brary were built. In the 1950's Hanson Hall, Christ Chapel, Din- ' ing Hall and Stine, Rice, Paul, Musselman, Patrick and Apple Halls were completed. With the 1960's came the College Union Building, Master's Hall, Bream Phys. Ed. Building, Musselamn Stadium and McCreary Hall. Re- cently, the Musselman Library was built.
