The history of lambda Chi Alpha fraternity at Gettysburg College can be traced to a local fraternity, Phi Sigma, founded in I 9! 6. In I 924, Phi Sigma combined with eleven other local fraternities to form Theta Kappa Nu. In l939, Theta Kappa Nu joined with lambda Chi Alpha to form the world's largest international fraternity. For decades, lambda Chi has been an active force on campus. Brothers are involved in many activities on campus. including Student government, the Gettysburgian, ROTC, WZBT, and several varsity and club sports, such as lacrosse, baseball. swimming, rugby, and golf. The brothers also put a lot of energy into the house as shown by our unique social and philanthropic functions. Founded I 30 years ago, Phi Kappa Psi is the oldest fraternity on campus. A monument to this fact is Miller Hall, which was built in I 882 and is the oldest fraternity chapter house in Pennsylvania. The 68 brothers and I3 pledges of Phi Psi are a diverse group of men whose interests span many areas on campus. Phi Psi's are well represented in eight varsity sports, including the rubgy club and numerous intramural sports. We are involved in many campus activities such as the Gettysburgian, WZBT, BACCHUS, IFC, T heater. Choir, and band. In academics, Phi Psi consistently places high in the fraternity GPA standings. Over the last three years, Phi Psi has been able to place at least one brother into the ranks of Phi Beta Kappa. The brothers of Penn Epsilon also take great pride in their philanthropy projects. This was carried out by the Grand Council of Phi Sigma Kappa, after consultation with the Student Life office of Gettysburg College. As of the time this is submitted, we have written letters to all our alumni and other chapters; solicited support from both IFC and Student Senate; been in close contact with the Office of Student Life and President Glassick; and prepared a presentation for the General Con vention of Phi Sigma Kappa this summer. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the students of Gettysburg College for all their support. Almost three-quarters of you signed a petition supporting our cause. We have been sustained by your caring and your efforts to reverse the apath y that allowed us all to lose J-term. We may lose our house, but we will always stand as one,. with the Thursday Night tradition to be carried on at High Street. Sigma Chi enjoyed another prosperous year at Gettysburg, as the name of the white cross continued its proud reputation as being one of the finest, well-rounded fraternities on campus. The figs proved to be a force on the playing field, in the classroom, and in legislative bodies on campus. We were well represented on various varsity teams, and our soccer and football intramural teams advanced to the final games. The brothers also hold top positions in various campus- wide activities. The house is also proud to be wishing two graduating seniors the best of luck at med-school.
