They tried to advise you what to bring, what to expect, but who could prepare you for what lies ahead? Upon your arrival at Gettysburg, you worked your way through Registration lines. Unloading the car was your next major step, while you anxiously awaited the arrival of your roommate. A banquet was served that first night for the entire freshman class. Before you had time to get settled you were thrown into a whirlwind of events. You met your orientation group and your advisor, were given a tour of campus, took all sorts of tests and learned the Honor Code. As orientation drew to a close you celebrated with a freshman class dance and tried to prepare for the semester ahead. Louis H. Acquista Dawn M. Adams Gerald S. Albright Katherine A. Alesio Brenda G. The team was led by Captains Craig Swanson and Rich Swartz. One of the teams biggest victories was the defeat of rival Bucknell t14-7t in the last meeting between the teams. With Bill Wagner at the quarterback position, the team produced some spectacular offensive feats also. The big factor was sophomore record breaker Scott Dudak, who captured the record for single game rushing and became the first 1000 yard rusher. Behind Dudakts rushing was A1 Schrader, another standout in Coach Streeter's second season. The Bullets led an exciting year of offensive and defensive triumphs. Team picture: 0. t0 rJ Row 1: B. Their season last year combined with this yeafs successful record formed their iirst back to back winning season in over forty years. A strong defense, which gave up only .53 goals per game, ranked the Bullets nationally among Division III teams. Coach Bill Rost's squad placed second in the MAC's with a 4-1-1 record. The turnover in attitude changed this yearis team from an average contender to a highly successful team. Varsity Team: 0. t0 rJ Row 1: D. Wagner, D. Seibel, M. Hourigan, D. Ouimette, I. Burdick, R. Always one of the most powerful fall teams on campus, the Bullets can look forward to continued strength in years to come, with fresh- man John Eberle leading the way. Sev- en 0f the top eight runners will return next season. The team placed second in the I.C.4A with strong performances by Eberle, Miller and Pfaff. They were fourth in the Eastern Regionals, which enabled the team to qualify for Na- tionals. Despite some difficulties with illness and injury, Gettysburg made the impressive showing. The women's up and coming team grows stronger every year. The hopes of it developing into a llteamll will soon be realized. The women placed fourth in the Conference meet, with placements by Fetheroff and Betz. The future of the women's cross country team is definitely something to be op- timistic about. 0. to F-l Wendy Brown, Sarah Baby- lon. Carol Syvertsen. This year both the merits and womenis bowling teams lived up to their standard of being two of the more successful teams on campus. The ments team had an impressive season with a record of 5-2. The women had an almost undefeated year with a 6-1 record. Deb Brannon was the women's top scorer with an average of 163, while Ron Sorozan took top place among the men with a 186 average. This powerful team has only been recognized as a club for many years. Next year, however, under the guidance of Coach Matt McManness, the Bullets will move into the Penn State League. As they gain the recognition of being a true athletic organization, the team has high hopes of much future success. 67 Overall, both Varsity and I.V. teams had good seasons, under the guidance of Coach Grace Kenny and Assistant Bruce Olson. Varsity captains were Gail Chovan and Ian Fraser. Ian Fraser and Ellie Kuehn, excellent spikers and servers led their team to a respectable fourth place at MACS and contributed to good performances at the Princeton Invitational and Mansfield Tournaments. The season ended with a 6-4 record. I.V. captains Corrine. Chassan and lame Holmes motivated their team to a record of 5-4. Outstanding players were Corrine Chasson, Cara Hedeman, and Sue Rose. There were some exciting upsets and some excellent individual perform- ances. rl'he Bullets earned key vic- tories over such favored teams as Bucknell, Lehigh, Shippensburg, and Rider, bringing some exciting action to their fans. Also, there were three 1000 point career scorers: Bob Rudis- ill, Larry Smith, and Bill North. This year's seniors will be greatly missed, but the possibility of a good next season is still present. M January Term is traditionally a time to break away from the regular routine of daily classes and hectic schedules. Instead, itts a month spent in an intensive course of particular interest, or in an internship, an independent study, or a trip abroad. Student experiences are many and varied. A total of 245 Gettysburg students served internships during the 1980 Ianuary Term. Class bells never sounded for those Who interned in the offices of doctors, lawyers, CPA's and stockbrokers, or at retail establishments or in labs. A number of students remained on campus and commuted; others lived at home or elsewhere. Nor did buzzers bother the 33 Gettysburgians who chose an independent study as a I-Term alternative to class. Student arranged studies ranged from directing a play to observing the winter habits of turkeys . . . Others reaveled to Turkey and Greece to view ancient architectural sites, while some went to Mexico to study ecology, 0r spent time in missions learning about other lifestyles. Ground was broken in the summer of '79 to make way for our new library. This modern addition to the campus is hoped to be completed early in 1981 and shall provide the means for increasing our libraryls facilities in many areas. The new library will double our book capacity. increase student seating and contain a vastly enlarged audio-visual center. There are also provisions for an all- night study room. Although not much to look at now, when finished it will be 11 great addition to our academic life. 162 MI nu '- PhOnathon X3. If ya. 017 MIL'YYQSI'J' mm, t mica '3 wt?
