8; la It is my privilege, as the new president of Gettysburg College, to be a part of they llnew beginningsll theme of the 1978 yearbook. Even though each academic year of- fers the campus community the opportunity for a new beginning, there is always the chance newness will run second to routine. Thus, I was pleased when the editor of ; the SPECTRUM told me that her staff planned to emphasize the word llnew in their 8 theme. Gettysburg College is, indeed, experiencing a new beginning that will in four short I. years, include the celebration of its 150th anniversary. The students who enter in the Fall of 1978 will make up the sesquicentennial class of 1982. The Class of 182 and the classes that follow will benefit from the newness that started in the Fall of 1977 and continued throughout the school year. The innovative Senior Scholarsl Seminar will have grown in stature from a yearls experience; the 6700 computer will have been tuned up to be useful in nearly all areas of the academic program; the special writing skills program designed to give students an added plus in handling their undergrad- uate studies will be in full operation; the new Libraerearning Resources Center will be a step closer to reality; and the general reviltalization of academic, social and , spiritual life on campus will be well underway. 9 I congratulate all who participated in Hnew beginnings? and invite everyone as- sociated with Gettysburg College to keep this newness ever a part of this great institu- tionls future. 1 o WKW 5 Charles E.
