The Art Department has offered, and does offer the opportunity to perceive history through living form, thus gaining a new sense of ones cultural roots; the opportunity for insights into humanity and the human condition through expressive and symbolic forms of great for art; and, since the study of art is essentially qualitative and relational, the opportunity to develop a sense of values and to exercise critical judgement. Artistic training involves, among many things, the education of human feeling, of the visual sensibility, a new sense of environment, and, with no danger of hubris, a new and deeper sense of self.
