The building of Glatfelter Hall was a major challenge to the domi- nance of Pennsylvania Hall. Brua Chapel was also built at this time, con- struction having been made possible by a $15,000 donation from Lieutenant Colonel William P. Brua. It was erected in honor of his parents. Another major addition to the College was the construction of Mc- Knight Hall in 1899. This building was originally a dormitory and apparently at- tracted students who otherwise would have . , V i . planned to go to Harvard or Yale. This would hardly be the case today! A change of town roads in the 1890's altered the appearance of the grounds. Until 1897, Mum- masburg Road extended from Carlisle Street, through the pres- ent campus tbetween Weidensall and Breidenbaugh, through the southern corner of Rice HaID into the residential block be- tween West Lincoln and West Broadway. A local planner, Mar- tin Winter, urged the town to vacate most of Mummasburg Road, and extend North Wash- ington Street to the newly built West Lincoln and West Broad- way Streets. Harvey W.
