Orientation was designed to acquaint freshmen with facilities, identify faculty and administration, enable the freshmen to form friendships quickly, and to get a chance to meet upperclass leaders. The main objective, however, was to make various programs in the college commimity available to the freshmen. A liberal arts college should make every effort to offer a wide range of developmental opportunities in many areas and not limit itself to the mass production of a single type of individual. Through pro- grams like the Huma.n Values Seminar, students were made aware of a variety of values and life styles available at Gettysburg. Activities Night in the CUB introduced the freshmen to the recreational facilities and organizations within the College Union. An Oldies Dance offered stu- dents the opportunity to relax amidst a hectic week. The traditional Sandbox rounded out a well received program, organized to stay away from the basic speeches and campus toursv routine and instead encouraged the fresh- men to become involved in a new experience called Gettysburg.
