GETTYSBURG ACADEMY Football I'he fall of 1923 w1ll long be remembered by all of us as an exceedlngly brlght one among our many seasons of puntmg the plgSk1Yl Coach Dulebohn produced a mlghty clever bunch of carriers of the oval although he was greatly handlcapped 1n havlng to use green materlal At the call candldates to the number of forty donned old sh1rts and breeches and pro ceeded to tear up the athletlc field By the tlme the hrst game was due the team was whlpped 1nto efccellent shape wlth Dlck Young as the talklng machlne The game wlth Wu nesboro resulted 1n '1 t1e and made our team buckle down to more serlous. and severe practlce ln the afternoons The Frederlck game was cancelled and so the gang proceeded to clean up Ilxgerstown Hlgh Harrlsburg Academy loomed up as a gl mt 1n our path 'md after a hard grmdlng battle they finally succeeded 1n get tlng ahead of us by two touch downs The playmg of Tenney ln thxs game w1ll go down 1n the schools hlstory as '1 true ex ample of grlt and solld muscle At last the game of games was due and prep 1umped mto the fray to w1n or d1e Gettysburg Ihgh managed to throw two snappy forwards to the wlnd and lucklly succeeded 1n makmg them touch downs The k1Ck was made on one Jack Croasdale and Tenney kept preps head out of water and thus saved us from a more humxllatlng defeat Jack ex celled IH gett1ng hlS man all through the game and Ed wlth a llttle head work made Hlgh School shudder w1th1n five yards of her posts The team then treaded 1ts way to Mt St Mary s to eradlcate ltS wrath upon that strong team They made the Mounts stand up and take notlce ln the first half But IH the second half the lncreaslng substltutmg of fresh men from the St Marys Slde lme quelled our attack and finally Wlth a great deal of alr play they managed to cause us defeat In summmg up our season we must say although our team 1923 Page 75 , . u ' ' vu ' u ' av ' , . . .
