SPANISH HONOR SOCIETY L. TO R. is Pres. Joe Renschen, Vice-Pres. Linda Renschen. Sec. L. TO R. is Elizabeth Byington. Lois Renschen and Tresa Tresa Gifford Gifford. This Spanish Honor Society was founded by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese in 1953. for the students of North American secondary schools; and this chapter is due to the efforts of Mrs Polly Murphy of Geronimo School who established it in 1971. The name of this chapter is XOCHITIOTZIN. The chapter is named in honor of Desiderio Hernandez Xochitiozin. regional artist and writer of Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala. Mexico. Our motto is Todosa una (All together), our colors are: red and gold, the colors of the flag of Spain. Our insignia and seal are those of the mother association, which can be seen on our official charter. 29

Joe Renschen Frank Ryan Vincent Strope Joy Davidson Marjorie Byington Sherry Lewis Don Schoonver Kay Ingerly Laura Shilder Clay Coosewoon Rusty Wallace Trina Wyrick Tammy Thomas The Spanish Club began in 1967 with Mr. Faz as sponsor. Mrs. Polly Murphy has been the sponsor since September. 1970. when we had seven members. There are now thirty-seven members. New members are initiated at the Fall Fiesta by signing our Friendship tablecloth, putting on skits in Spanish, and cleaning up after the dinner. The King and Queen of the Club are crowned at this time also. The Queen's crown came from Madrid. Spain and is passed on from year to year; former Queens are presented with tiaras which also came from Spain. Kings receive engraved I.D. bracelets. The on-going project of the Xochitiotzin Chapter of the Spanish National Honor Society is to promote and help carry out the activities of the Geronimo High School Spanish Club. 28
