-l-ennis Although not looking too impressive at the time of this writing, the tennis team, coached by Mr. Jacobs and captained by Leon Scott, may have some impressive laurels to bring back to Germantown at the conclusion of the season. Basketball l First Row: Coach Barthold, M. Tendler, B. Rubin, J. Blaine, R. Guthrie, L. Aronson, J. Bach- man, T. Tazumi, Manager Hotchkiss. Second Row: E. Ingrahm, F. Ditomasso, W. Wilson, P. Bohm, P. Twelves, C. Ginsburg, S. Davidoff. Third Row: Asst. Manager Brown, B. Strick- man, L. Hawkins, F. Fazzini, I. Davidoff, D. Marrington, R. Robinson, J. Nazzerlian, Asst. Manager Abramson. Fate dealt its blow to the mermen of Germantown by taking from their grasps the Public High swimming championship. Losing to the swimmers from Northeast High in the iinal relay event by a margin of only a few inches, the Baranmen lost both a dual meet to the Archives and the championship. Prior to the dual meet with Northeast, the team had emerged victorious from meets with teams such as those from Central, LaSalle, and Southern. Don Ratayski, elected captain of the team at the season's close, won the 5O'yard freestyle event at the championships and would have gained the diving crown had he not slipped on his last dive. Excelling in the backstroke event was Dick Lott, now in the United States Navy. Another stalwart of the team, also serving his country in the Navy as this is written, was Harold Markley, who swam in the 220 and 100fyard freestyle events. Don Rafferty, with George Butler, swam breaststroke par excellence. Contributing materially to the team's successful record was Leon Gregory, ff diver and freestyler. Mr. A. Baran, coach of the team, is proud, not only of his team's record in com' f petition, but of the fact that several of the past team members are now serving as instructors in swimming, helping to save the lives of many of our fighting men. lil 'L'-ff: 'vs 0110 lzmzdrud three
