The Mothers, Association Rolxl 1922, when it was formed under the capable leadership of lxlrs. Vvertsner, until the present day, a most important factor in the betterment of German- town High School has been the lxlothers' Association. It has unseltishly given time to helping our needy pupils, our athletic teams, and our organizations, and has encouraged many improvements for the school itself. Dr. Keller, who was principal at the time the Association started, said that its main object would be to help pupils of the school over their financial difficulties. It was in this way that the Students' Assistance Fund was begun and the Mothers devoted most ol their time to the maintaining of this Fund. Each year they gave a card party, the proceeds of which were nearly sufficient. before the depres- sion, to meet the needs lor help. Even in the most difficult years, however, they were able to lceep their excellent record of never having failed to respond to a case that really demanded their aid. ln 1933 the Mothers' Association decided to turn the management ol the Fund over to the school, since the faculty and school clubs were then contributing generously to it. The weeldy collections which the student body now gives have so helped to carry the burden that the Mothers have felt more tree to support other worthy causes lor the benefit of our school, although they still malce large contributions. It was the lvlothers' Association which llirst had the idea of an athletic field. ln early years the lxlothers gave S1500 toward the buying of a field, having earned this money by selling crullers at football games and serving school lunches. They have bought serge suits for the girls' basketball team and trunlcs for the boys' soccer team. lxlusical instruments have been given to the orchestra and music to the band, Boolcs for the library and Home Economics Department have been fur- nished. A camera lor the Record Boolc staff and a typewriter for the Cliveden staff have been donated. They have planted a row ol: roses along the school-yard lence. have had pictures framed, have given a Cliveden prize at each commence- ment. and sometimes a Clipper prize. ln more recent years the organization has given us the indispensable amplify- ing system in the auditorium. The girls probably would not have loclcers, had it not been lor the lxlothers' continued requests to the Board ol Education. As for tl1e band unilorms they bought us last year, little needs to be said except that these fine outllits have made a new group of boys out of the band. seem to have encouraged the football team, and have promoted better spirit among the students at the football games. Those women who have faithfully served as presi- dents during the sixteen years of the Associations existence are lVlrs. Vvertsner, lxlrs. Waterhouse, Mrs. Emhardt, lxlrs. Humphreys, blrs. Adlcin. lVlrs. Yoder, lxlrs. lxflonroe, and lxlrs. Clime. The Nlothers' Association this term has about three hundred members. lxleetings are held at school the fourth Wednesday of every month from September to lxlay. and each lxlarch a card party is elsewhere given to raise money. lxluch credit is due lxlrs.
