MCLAUGHLIN was graduated from Wit- Tenberg CollegeV He did work at the Uni- versity of Toledo and at Ohio University, Athens. He teaches history and American Government. MR. RAZ, our music instructor, altended the Ithaca Conservatory of Music and the Day- bn Institute of Music. He received his de- gree from Wittenberg College. He has organized a dance orchestra and give; free music lessons to many students. MR. GIERHART was graduated irom Willen- berg Collegeh He will complete his Masters Degree this summer. At the end of the eighth grade year we were welcomed into high school by the freshmen at cm informal party. Mr. Gierhctrt WCIS chosen as class adviser in our freshmen year. For the past four years, he has been c: good friend and counselor to all in the class. A dramatic production, 'tPeopie Are Funny was given in December of our Iunior year. The Seniors were honored by the Juniors at :1 formed banquet given at the Dayton Art Institute, after which Ct theatre party was held at Loew's. In the summer of this yeczr, one of our classmates, Hilda Burden, died. During our last year in school. we have been busy with the usual Senior activities. The class play, After Wimpole Street was given on May 10. Our class flower is the American Beauty Rose; our colors cxre old rose and silver; and our motto is: TtTonight we launch; where shall we anchor? History Will not put us down as C! remarkable class, but nevertheless, we have accomplished many things, Every year we have had members of our class on the county and district scholarship teams. Our boys helped to win the county championship in 1939. This year there were five senior boys on the team which won the district championship. Tonight we launch; where shall we anchor? The play was directed by Miss Peggy Young and proved to be very interesting, In the early part of December we chose our class rings. ' THE CARDINAL CREST ; Cardinal Crest Staff The Annual Staff this year was composed of fourteen members. The officers were: Miss Young, Adviser; Louella Baker, Editor-in-Chief; Rosalind Mac Murray, Assistant Editor; Neal Kurtiss, Business Manager; Virginia Fritz, Circulation Manager, and Betty Jane Fox, Treasurer. This year the Annual Staff has tried to make the annual more interesting for you We have attempted to carry a musical theme throughout the book and we hope that you have liked this idea. We have also added more pictures and snapshots. We are indebted to Mr. Bahler for the assistance he has given us in getting the pictures for the annual and also to many others Who have helped in the publication of our book. Cardinal Staff THE CARDINAL was honored this year by c1 membership in the National Exchange Service This Service includes members from oil slates in the United States with whom we have the privilege of exchanging our own mimeogmph reproduced magazine. There have been four editions published this year. The Easter issue which contained thirty pages is the largest paper ever published. Librarians This year the sioif of librarians consisted of fourteen girls under the supervision of Mr, Kern. Many new books were catalogued and placed on the shelves for use during 1he year. +.; THE CARDINAL CREST 7 Band There are fifty members in the band. The band has given four concerts and has played at several of the cheer practices. New uniforms have been ordered for 1he members of 1he band and they are eagerly owuiiing meir arrival. Fourteen members were selected to play in the All-County Band. Orchestra The orchestra is composed of thirlyhiive members, This group played for 1he PUD A. meetings, Chapel programs, plays, and Commencement. They also furnished music for the Musical given in April. Chorus The Chorus is composed oi eighty members. They have made seven public appear- ances. The purpose 01 our club is to strive to become better homemakers, Oi the various activities engaged in, the joint-bunquet with the FF. A. boys for our mothers and fathers was the largest. We also helped with the Easter Egg Hunt. Four of our members attended the State Convention in Columbus. Our members along With the F. F. A. boys attended the Boone County Iumboree in Cincinnati this April. Future Farmers of America The otiicers for 1939-1940 are: Omar Brandenburg, President: Billy Rogers, Vice-President; Maurice Getter, Secretory; Kenneth Clensy, Treasurer. The cctivities of the year included the Corn Husking Contest, the F.F.A. and PH. A. Father and Son cmd Mother and Daughter Banquet, the Easter Egg Hunt, and a trip to the Boone County Iumboree. M7 THECARDINALBREET , - , Camera Club At present, the Camera Club consists of twelve members. The officers are: Phillip Schaf- ier, President; Robert Kemper, Vice-Presideni; James Dean, Secretary-Treusurer; Mr. Buhler, Adviser. ' The main function of this club is to teach boys how 10 use a camera efficiently and eco- nomicully, how to take good pictures. and how to develop prints and enlarge pictures. In the future the Club plans to expand its program to include other phases of Science such as Biology, Chemistry, and Radio. Spelling Bee The Germantown Elementary pupils have taken on qciive interest in the annual WHIO Spelling Bees. Kenneth Smith, Doris Windhorst, Bertha Grossnickle, Willa EllingA ton, Estus Havens, Emma Bradshaw, Evelyn Eby, Iocmne Rosentiel, Delores Burkclow, Betty Barnett, and. Mary Grossnickle were members of the spelling team. Willa Ellington, Doris Windhorst, Estus Havens, IoAnne Rosentiel, Delores Barkolow, and Mary Grossnickle won and represented our school in the DaytonAMontgomer County finals. During the entire season, the Cards played c1 total of twenty-tour games, winning tWenty and losing four. In the league, the Cards ranked first with twelve victories and two detectsl and won the County League Championship. Onward they went into the county tournament and won third place. Next they played in the Sectional, survived this meet and entered the district. They won the DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP and entered the State finais at Columbus. This is the first time this has ever happened in the history oi our school.
