SWIMMING HE. swrmmlng team dnd well this year even though It hut only a halfway mark nn wmmng three meets and losmg three The success was due largely to the scormg of Captain Shellenberger Carothers and Darrow Shellenberger havxng the highest score for the season and Carothers the next place An lmtlal lack of expenence sickness and other troubles accompamed the team through a varying season but one which featured lhdlVldUal achievement ln defeat as well as ln vlctory Shellenberger took fifth place this year ln the fifty yard freestyle of the National A A U Scholastic Meet for Preparatory Schools and set two school records one in the two hundred yard swlm wlth a tlme of 2 mmutes 22 seconds and the other nn the fifty yard swim wlth a time of 25 3 seconds ln the next meet when only the men returning next year partlclpated the German town Y M C A umors had to concede a score of 33 24 proving that next year s team wnll be one of our best and that under Coach Truesdale s guidance It should take most of the meets and more places ln the Natlonals Only five men earned letters this year Shellenberger Carothers Darrow S Hagner and Morehead Of these five only two are senlors further reason to hope for a team whlch will soon be tops Many members of the squad who lacked the number of pomts re qulred for a first team letter recelved their second team awards We are greatly lndebted to Mr Truesdale for hrs excellent work as our coach and we slncerely hope that he and the Swlmmlng team will enjoy successful seasons m the future St Thomas More H S Central H S La Salle H S Swarthmore College Fresh Germantown Y M C A umors 67 . . . . j ' - , ' ' G.
