vw ll as -on 49.11 l 41.2 SOCCER HE G A soccer team started the year Wlth only four lettermen from the PTCVIOUS season lncludmg Captaln Ted Heldenrelch Relff Landes Howard George and Ed Stulb ln the first game scheduled with Penn Charter the lnexperlenced G A eleven suffered a 3 0 defeat havlng had but two short weeks of practlce at the time At of mud to a final score of 7 0 The game wlth Mastbaum was nearly the lce breaker but ln the last few rrlnutes of the thlrd quarter the opponents scored from a set up play and won 2 I The Epxscopal encounter was by far the best game the team played thls year After EplSCOpal had scored twlce ln the first four minutes of play our backfield suddenly tlghtened and brought to llght two top notch fullbacks oe Etrls and lm Sutor l94l s Captain Although these boys worked llke demons for the remainder of the game the llne wasn t able to score before the final whistle left the outcome at 2 0 The break came ln the Frankford game as then the boys finally came through Howard George cored four tlmes and Ed Stulb once The final score read G A 5 Frankford 0 A let up followed for we lost the next two games to Friends Select 2 0 and to Moores town Frlends 3 I the last game of the season As a final effort the team played Stevens School ln field hockey and won for the flrst txme ln the hlstory of the annual event by a 5 4 score Howard George scored four trmes whlle Ted Heldenrelch scored once The Class of l94l expresses xts gratitude to Mr Spealler for hls excellent coachlng and the hope that greater student support will brmg better luck to Mr Spealler and hls soccer teams ln the future 64 al N l I. , o ll , ll ll A ll 9 ff? -,,. 7 'H '- S rl I 1 54 ' ' Haverford, the scene of thelnext encounter, the team played a losing game in three inches s ' , l . . ., 3 l ,
