CLASS HISTORY UR years at Germantown Academy have been happy ones and sxnce many of us wall never reunlte agaln we the Class of l94I have wrltten our hlstory for perma nent record ln the year l928 the Class of l94l had lts ll'lSlgl'llflCaI1t begmnmg way back m the block bulldlng stage Of those who Jolnecl the Class that year four are wlth us tonlght Larry Cahall George Darrow Frank Frlck our little presldent and Burton Smyth who made up the nucleus of the Klndergarten Class These four recelved excel lent tralnmg even though at that tlme Kershaw Hall had none of nts present advantages Next year we started our real school llfe when we went mto the Flrst Prlmary and lVl1ss Bushong s excellent guldance That year our small group was doubled by the acqulsl t1on of Bull Farr R816 Landes Chlck Lutklns and Walt Yeager who was vlolently unwlll mg to attend school The outstandmg event of that year occurred when Miss Bushong set Burton Smyth on a few newspapers in a corner because she wlshed to punlsh him ffor what3 Two years later ln Thlrd C-rade we were further augmented by Doug Ford s entrance Thmgs were toughened that year by the necessary mastery of the process of multlplylng and dlvldmg fractlons As kmgs of the Prlmary we were next mtroduced to Miss Kerlm Although the Class had no new addltlons there are many thlngs whxch we can remember One of the most xnterestlng was a serxes of experlments conducted by Mr Roberts dealing wlth lxquxd oxygen Another thlng we remember besldes Bull Farr s poetry was Mxss Kerlm s method of punlshlng splt ballers whlch consisted of compelllng the culprlt to make an addltlonal 200 to 400 splt balls after school was Bob Yeabsley That year besrdes vlsltmg the Ledger Bulldlng the picture reprmted was taken there we were amused by a photographer who came from the Bullelm to take pictures of the bank which we had made m connectlon wlth our study of banking and check wrltlng Sometlme later we were mtroduced to public speakmg when four of our number debated on the relatlve ments of Washlngton and Llncoln The Thlrd lntermedlate year was the time when our wlldness emerged Co1nc1d1ng wlth our barbarlc tendencles was the entrance of two dlstmgulshed members Lew Cutter and lm Pawson Several emphatlc lncldences marked that year ln our memory On the hrst day our teacher Mr Lewxs was sllghtly befuddled by the splt balls whlch contmua ly llttered the floor Another thorn ln the slde of Mr Lewxs was the repeated loosenmg and tlghtenlng of the hydraullc door checks m Moore Hall by varlous members of our d1s tmgulshed gang When our pedagogue finally reallzed that the disturbances might be remedled by cuscretlonary dlSClpllI'l6 our same gang declded to u e the method employed by varlous labor umons to counteract his oppresslonary measures wlth the posslble secondary result of gammg longer lunch periods As a consequence our fellows were famllrarlzed wlth the office and Dr Osbourns ofhclal re bukes spendmg most of our tlme accustommg ourselves to the well known anxious bench However the most Important thlng that happened -v6 The notable addition to our Class, when we entered the Second Form Intermediate, . . . . . , . ,. . . . . .
