G dans jifrfstfof' We, the class of '61, entered high school in September, 1957. There were twenty-eight of us under the guidance of our homeroom teacher, Mrs. Aleine Gra- vitt, and Mr. Wade Duncan, principal. During our Freshman year, we were fortunate to have two girls and three boys on the basketball teams. Janie White was chosen as May Day Attendant, Losing eight of our students during the year certainly made a big difference in the class. Before we knew it, our Freshman year was over and the summer months be- gan. Beginning our Sophomore year, Mr. Duncan was our homeroom teacher. We were proud to have Katie Wagoner represent us in the May Court. Linda Cox was crowned Halloween Queen. We were all sorry to lose three more of our students that year. One of our most enjoyable experiences during our Junior year was when we took the Seniors on An Evening in Holland , which was the theme of our Junior- Senior Banquet. Another great experience was when we gave our two Junior plays, a short comedy of 'Who Does the Dishes 'l'onight', and a three act play, 'Blind Luck'. We were honored to have David Hawkins as Vice-President and Johnny Johnson as Corresponding Secretary of the Student Council. Marshals for the 1960 Graduating class were: Linda Cox, Chief, Nancy Bowden, Nola Bennett, Janie White, and David Hawkins. Halloween King and Queen came from our class in the persons of Johnny Johnson and Brenda Hampton. During the Spring of 1960, Janie White was elected Miss Germanton Hi and Maid of Honor in the May Court. For the graduating class of 1960 it was our pleas- ure to present the traditional Daisy Chain. As Seniors we moved into another year of studies with our Motto We Finish to Begin . Our fondest dreams came true when we received our classrings on Octo- ber 31. We, the Seniors, wish to thank each teacher who has helped guide us through our school days, also our friends and classmates. To our friends and classmates we wish to express a desire that they strive for the betterment of themselves. With sadness we think of leaving Germanton, but we are looking forward to a bright future filled with happiness. Class Historian Janie White

7314010 ecy gf Gkss 0 761 As I look into my crystal ball, I see very clearly the future that lies ahead for the members of the Class of '61 of Germanton High School. Breaking from the hazy mist that surrounds the future, I see that LINDA COX is an airline hostess for the largest airline serving Winston-Salem. Overshadowing her work as Hostess is the fact that she will soon become the hostess in the home of some lucky mang her husband. Next, I can see NANCY BOWDEN taking her place at the piano. At the other piano, can be made out the figure of another pianist. Could it be that Nancy has become the partner of Liberacel What's this! Suddenly I can see the future of DARRYL RING. He has just be- come M. G. M. 's most important movie actor. We will soon be seeing him on the screen as the star of that most exciting, Gone , LARRY ROLAND has just bought out his partners, and is now the sole owner of the largest Ford place in the World. His cars are selling by the millions. I can see that the 'Hot Rod Kid', DAVID HAWKINS, has won the champion- ship trophy at the Indianapolis Speedway with his souped-up '49 Ford. This is David's fifth straight Victory. My next glance reveals IANIE WI-HTE as the owner of her own beauty shop. I'm sure she will do well, as hers is the only shop in Germanton. Coming into view now is NOLA KAY BENNETT. She is now head waitress at one of the most elaborate restaurants in New York City. Newspaper headlines show next what we've all been looking forward to. JOHN- NY JOHNSON has finally replaced Mr. Duncan as principal at Germanton. Lucky DON WHITE. He has just become manager of the Skating Rink in King. Some call him the best skater in the territory. From the crystal ball, I can now report that his fame goes farther than that. A real close look shows that BRENDA HAMPTON is buying an airplane ticket to Hawaii. Seems she is planning on setting up a million dollar Hula dress shop. She will cater to tourists with money. Looks like DORIS HILL and PHYLLIS SOUTHERN never made it. Here they are, about ready to move into their new businessg 'Shady Rest Home for Particular Old Maids'. However, they are still on the look-out for two tall, dark, handsome and rich men. Good luck girls. Last, but not the least of them, I can see the future of the final Senior of '61s LYNDA SMITH. Lynda has won the title of Best Housekeeper of the United States Surely, someone has made a terrible mistake. Yes, these are the things that the old crystal ball predicts. True or false, may the future of these Seniors of '61 be the best in the world. Surely, their future will be whatever they are best fitted for. ' 61 Class Prophet ANONYMOUS
