George J. Plava, Supervising Principal Our Supervising Principal’s message The nineteen hundred sixty-one Lau- reola will be of historical significance since it marks the end of forty-five years of our existence as a four year high school. The four year program began in 1916 in the present high school building which will always be German Township High School to over five thousand grad- uates. Next year we begin operating as a Jun- ior-Senior High School. We hope, by this reorganization, to provide more ade- quately for the educational needs of the boys and girls of German Township. It has been a pleasure to work with the board of education, teachers, and stu- dents in this reorganization program. GEORGE J. PLAVA Supervising Principal

Our Principal’s message Youth everywhere is exploding into action. We hear on every side that teen-agers are more concerned with cars than careers. In some cases, 1 admit, there is a disturbing ring of truth in this statement; however, it is not entirely accurate. With the impetus of Sputnik and the deadly drive for college ad- mission there has come a new intellectual atmosphere in our schools by the sincere American Youth. They are studying the world of their elders, and in some cases do not like what they learn and are desirous of a chance to change it. It is our duty as teachers to inspire our students in their search for these intellectual goals. It is the business of the school administration to meet the challenge of our muddled age with some clear concept of the values of our many school activities and keep them consistent with our culture and the needs of our students. Our Principal’s office is a busy place.
