3111 illlvmnriam - THOMAS REED FRANKS Ocfober I4, I9I6 April I6, l945 Thomas Reed Franks, a member of the German Township High School fac- ulty, lost his life while serving his country. At the time of his death, he was serv- ing on the U.S.S. Bryant. Mr. Franks entered the United States Navy on December 3, 1943, as an En- sign and on April 1, 1945, was raised in rank to Lieutenant Junior Grade. This fact he never knew as he was at sea at the time of this promition. Lieutenant Franks was buried in the National Cemetery on the Zamami Is- land, Kerama Relto. Thomas Reed Franks was graduated from German Township High School with the class of 1933, and received his AB. degree from Waynesbilrg College in 1937, where he was active in the Phi Lamba Theta fraternity and a member of the wrestling squad. Here at German he taught Mathematics, Biology, and Eng- lish, and was the sponsor of the hall patrol and the bus sergeants. Lieutenant Franks is survived by his wife Margaret Coffman Franks of the class of 1937 and a small son, Thomas Lee Franks. 6
