Q are 1959 Football The football season in Gering High School for 1939 turned out to be a fairly successful one. Of the ten scheduled games we won three, tied one, and lost six. We began the season with a new coach, Leland Copeland, from Sargent, Nebraska. New football suits were bought as an encouragement for the boys to play their best. One of the high-lights of the season was a spectacular seventy- five yard run by Junior Allison in the Gering-Scottsbluff game on Thanksgiving day. At the end of the season Bob Corcoran and Jack Long were elected as honorary co-captains. Robert Corcoran was mentioned for all-state guard. Ed Amthor, Stan Reeder and Bob Corcoran were mentioned on the all-west- ern team. Varsity awards were given to ten seniors, eight juniors, one soph- omore and one freshman. During the season, we had the opportunity of taking a trip to Lin- coln and seeing the University of Nebraska play football against Oklahoma. The trip was financed by a carn- ival, sponsored by the G Club and supervised by Mr. Lyman. A twenty-five dollar donation was also given to us by the Gering Chamber of Commerce.
