emor Glass gtzstory UR HIGH SCHOOL CAREER began ln 1936 when as green freshmen we entered thls school of hlgher knowledge much to the delight of the upper classmen who enjoyed tor mentmg us so much that lt fmally ended ln a freshmen 1n1t1at1on We elected as our sponsors Mlss Block and Mr Bayer who proved to be encouraglng and helpful when we had troubles w1th the perplexltles of Senlor Hlgh School We elected as our offlcers Edwm Amthor presldent Barbara Neeley vlce presldent Vlfglnla Lee Bott secretary and Blalr Rogers treasurer The outstandmg event of our freshmen year was the carmval dance sponsored by our class Thls dance proved to be a complete success and w1ll be a pleasant memory for many years to come Dur mg the year a May Festlval was held and two freshmen girls Polly Ponder and June Jones were selected to be attendants to the May Queen In our sophomore year MISS Block remamed as one of our sponsors whlle Mr Somers was elect ed to help her ThlS really proved to be qulte a 1ob That year the class offxcers elected were Presldent Polly Ponder vlce presldent Vernon Snocker secretary Martha Whltman and treas urer Robert Corcoran The two hlghhghts of th1s year were the hay rxde whlch proved to be a great success and a high school party that was enjoyed by everyone In our Junlor year Mlss Block and Mr Lyman helped to further our hlgh school 3CtlVltl8S and were a great a1d 1n tlme of need For mstance they asslsted 1n selectmg our class rlngs and put tmg on our never to be forgotten Junlor Semor banquet whlch seemed to us a perfect Nlght 1n Ven1ce Our 1un1or class play Hold Everythlng proved to be highly entertalmng we thought and start ed some of our hopefuls on thelr way to a dramatic career Many soclal events such as hayrldes several dances and plcnxcs provlded many good tlmes whlch w1ll always lmger ln the memorles of every boy and glrl graduate of G H S Our offzcers who served so faithfully throughout our thlrd year were Presldent Blalr Rogers ended another year ln the llV6S of the class of 1940 Here we are at last ln the last stage of our hlgh school days sponsored by our falthful Mlss Block and thlS txme asslsted by the capable Mr Chrlstlan Maybe they had some 1deas of seelng us thoroughly educated before we passed for the last tlme through the sacred portals of our beloved G H S We hope they are not dlsappolnted In thls eventful year the class officers were elected as follows Presldent Junlor Gentry VICC president Polly Ponder secretary Maxme Grant treasurer Russell Collms The G Club composed mostly of the male members of our class gave a b1g carmval and all school orgamzatlons helped them put lt over Skxts were held ln the audltorlum booths were also dxs trrbuted over the bulldlng to peddle thelr varxous wares for the event Wlth the money earned at thls gala occaslon the Bulldog flrst team enJoyed a trlp to Lmcoln to wltness an excltmg foot ball game between Oklahoma and Nebraska The annual Sadle Hawklns Dance was held March 20 of thls year and provlded much amusement for those attendmg About thls time the flrst G H S annual put out slnce 28 was well on lts way to the prmters After much hard labor and many sacrlflces on the part of the annual staff The Ploneer was publlshed In the mldst of all thls excltement there was also a senior play ln the maklng Mr Haynes our dramatic coach devoted much of hls tlme and advlce to help the senlors put on the best play ever to be glven ln Germg Hlgh School Fxrst MIIIIOH was the name of thls famed productlon w1th the cast made up of promlnent senlors And so we come to the end Many of us go on to further educatlon and 6451 many go to seek vocatlons m whatever fleld they choose during their hlgh X, school years Wherever they go whatever thev do may they all remem ber the happy hours spent ln G H S I ll I I ' 61 YY ' .
