National Honor Society To become a member of the Geraldine Chapter of the National Honor Society, a student must have a grade of B” or better for a semester. One must then go through a screening process by members in the Society and a faculty group to determine whether they fulfill the other requirements—Character, Leadership, and Service, Associate members are also elected. They are sopho- mores who demonstrate the same potential of regular members, but they have no vote. This year Jim Woodbum, Karen Harrer, Janet Myers, and Jack Owen were elected. Mr. Smith, advisor, Lynn Goldhahn, Alan Goldhahn, Rod Holdhahn, Dave Spurgeon, Dennis Carlson, Amie Owen, Patricia Goldhahn, Sarah Davis, Vice President Donna Woodbum, President Margaret Dostal, Secretary Rita Steinbacher, Maureen Joyce. Annual Staff Through combined efforts, the members of the 1973 Safari Staff have constructed this yearbook, hoping that it would preserve the wonderful memories of the 1972-1973 school year. Our main activity, besides constructing the yearbook, was earning the finances to make it possible. During the year, we sold advertisements, yearbooks, and held a Christmas Bake Sale to meet these needs. We w'ould like to express sincere gratitude to our parents, advertisers, teachers, student photographers, Pete Magnuson, and the community as a whole for their support and cooperation. We also would like to extend a special word of thanks to our sponsor: Dub Mogstad and Mr. Smith. They contributed a large amount of their time, ideas, assistance, understanding, and many cheery words while we were constructing this yearbook. Arnie Owen, Rich Owen, Sponsor Dub Mogstad, Editor Donna Woodburn, Assistant Editor Peggy Tadej, Sponsor Mr. Smith, Gigi Owen, Copy Editor Karen Smith, Organization Editor Maureen Joyce, Sports Editors Alan Goldhahn, Kim Boutilier, Business Manager Patty Smith, Grades Editors Brigette Joyce, Bonnie Tadej, Sherry Warehime, Theresa Dostal, Dorothy Bronec, Clinton Fairbanks,. The papers consisted of current news articles, jokes, senior interviews, and opinions from all of the Geraldine High School students. Homecoming The homecoming festivities began with a snake dance which was followed by a bonfire at the football field. The cheerleaders, Pep Club, and the band provided an enthusiastic atmosphere for the introduction of the senior football players and the royalty. The Saturday morning parade included a group of horses, the marching band, class floats, automobiles, and children on their bicycles. The Geraldine Tigers defeated the Stan- ford Wolves by a score of 20-18. That evening, the senior class sponsored an Alumni Tea honoring the classes of 52 and '72. The Homecoming celebration came to a close with a dance, sponsored by the Junior class. 44 The royalty float, built by the Junior Class, took the first place prize among the floats of the parade. The green, pink, yellow, and white float was a beautiful setting for the Queen and her Court. The Sophomore Class float, which placed second, stressed voting for a Tiger victory. The red, white, and blue float was constructed on an old Army truck. The original Freshman float placed fourth. They were confident that the Tigers would can the Wolves. The Senior Class built the third place float. They implied that the Tigers would tip the Stanford Wolves. 45 Royalty Senior King, Amie Owen; Senior Queen, Peggy Tadej; Sophomore Princess, Brigette Joyce; Freshman Princess, Dallas Fairbanks; Junior Princess, Bonnie T adej • 46 Queen Peggy Tadej, King Arnie Owen Princesses: Bonnie Tadej, Brigette Joyce, Dallas Fairbanks. This is the third year that Geraldine has partici- pated in Earth Day and the results of their efforts are visible. 55 Second Annual Chaotic Happening On February 24 G.H.S. hosted the second Speech and Drama Meet, better known as the Chaotic Happening. M This class C meet was attended by Centerville, K-G, Roy, Moun- tain View, Grass Range, Stanford, Geyser, Belt, Culbertson, St. Leo's, and Geraldine. Geraldine1 s team proved its power by winning the 1st place trophies in both speech and dra- ma as well as the Grand Sweepstakes. Way to go team! Me? No, I'm not chewing gum. C-r-r-r-ack No, he's a little too short for me. Those overnight speech meets are rough. Doesn't time fly when your having fun? Good idea-but you left out the hole. Oink-Oink-I wonder if they have another dish? 56 “And now for my next trick. Junior-Senior Banquet This wouldnft be the graduating class of 1973 would it? Well Goil, my boy, you finally did it huh? I Jt ■■■ -% Senior Excursion The majority of the senior class, Leonard Steinbacher, Mr. and Mrs, Mrs, Phil Tadej, and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Engellant departed on the Senior Trip the morning following Graduation. The first day, the group journeyed to Missoula, toured the University of Montana Campus, and spent the night there. The next day, they traveled to Helena, toured the Carroll College Campus, visited Frontier Town, the Lewis and Clark Caverns, and reached Bozeman where they stayed in the MSU dormitories. The next morning they toured the Montana State University Campus and returned home. This unforget- table excursion was an excellent way to conclude twelve mem- orable years. 1973 Graduation Day The Class of 1977 graduated from the eighth grade.
