J.V.’S HAVE A GOOD YEAR The Junior Varsity basketball team, coached by Terry Hebert, finished the season with a 16 - 4 win - loss record. Team support was high this year, and the four girls at left were enthusiastic leaders in promoting Tiger spirit. Pictured from center down are Carleen Mayo, Lori Quigley, Sandra Magnuson, and Billee Byrd--J.V. cheerleaders for 1971-1972. VARSITY CHEERLEADERS As any of the girls pictured on this page can tell you, it isn't easy to be a Varsity cheerleader. There are pep rallies to arrange, cheers to learn, outfits to remember on long trips ( Oh no--I forgot my shoes! ); team spirit to worry about, and the difficulty of keeping that smile in place during the heartbreak of losing that last game. Cheerleaders take a team for better and for worse; for miss and for score; until at season's end, they part. These four girls did a marvelous job of promoting Tiger spirit throughout our entire happy- sad season. No--cheerleading isn't easy--but not one of these girls would have given up on the mighty Tigers. Pictured from left to right--GiGi Owen, Kathy Buck, Pat Goldhahn, and Debbie Frederick. GERALDINE WINS FIRST DIVISIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP As you can see, Tom wasn’t VERY proud of the trophy! Although Geraldine trackmen only tallied one first - place finish, they showed depth to amass 39 points and win the boy’s division of the Northern C Divisional at Memorial Stadium. Power finished second with 36. This is the first Divisional Championship for Geraldine in any sport. The first place finish came in the 880 yd. relay in a time of 1:35.4. Relay members include R. Owen, A. Owen, Tom Little, and Loren Spurgeon. Chuck Scheie placed second in the high jump, with a jump of 6'0 . Tom Little placed second in the discus with a toss of 124' 2”• Loren Spurgeon placed third in the 440 yd. run with a time of 53.6, and he also added two second place finishes in the 100 and 220 yd. dashes. Debbie Frederick was selected as Cheer Queen. The Varsity Athletics were given a chance to vote on this for the first time. There were skits and spirit sit-ins to further arouse school spirit.
