'69 SAFARI VOLUME XXIV EDITED BYTHE ANNUAL STAFF OF 1969 TABLE OF CONTENTS DEDICATION.......................................2 FACULTY ADMINISTRATION.........................3 IN MEMORIUM......................................8 SENIORS..........................................9 CLASSES.........................................17 HONORS AWARDS.................................26 ORGANIZATIONS...................................29 SPORTS..........................................37 ACTIVITIES......................................49 CANDIDS.........................................62 ELEMENTARY......................................63 LISTINGS 72 DEDICATION We, the Safari staff of 1969 wish to dedicate this annual to Mr. Elmer G. Dammel, School Board Chairman, in appreciation of his 16 years of service to the students and the faculty of this school. 2 _ ____Jt- r mr ’’THERE ARE TWO WAYS OF SPREADING LIGHT: TO BE THE CANDLE OR THE MIRROR THAT REFLECTS IT.' Edith Wharton ADMINISTRATION SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE Albert Einstein once said, Education is that which remains after you have forgotten everything you learned at school. He meant that education is not mass of inert facts or ideas, but an attitude, a continuing function of full personality. For the world of the future, functioning at full potential calls for such traits as originality, boldness, flexibility rather than conformity, timidty and rigidity. Schools can help create the sense of commitment, the sense of caring for the other citizens of the world but they must throw off the mechanized mass indoctrination of the right answer . Graduates from Geraldine Schools will be stepping in into an unbelievably exciting but new world, demanding a new kind of person. A person flexible enough to solve complex problems and to shift comfortably from one challenge to another shall achieve his total human potential. Class of 1969 - Congratulations Mr. Stan Smith PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE This yearbook will not be nearly as important to you this year as it will be ten years from now. As a unit, your class will cease to exist this year. As individuals, each of you will leave school life to go out into life's school. How will you fare? For many of you, your high school career will be the last time for formal accounting of your successes and failures. No longer will you have a periodic report issued by a school faculty on which you are judged to be passing or failing. You will become your own judge—you and the society in which you live. I am confident that each of you will set your standards high and that you will achieve these standards. The world in which you are going is a better world in which to live because of the progress made by the generation before you. Your task will be to move your generation a few notches for the next generation—your children. You have learned, among other things, that the democracy in which you live not only carries with it certain rights and privileges, but also definite obligations. Don't shirk these obligations—take a lively interest in the world in which you live. Ten years from now give yourself a self-check and see if you are fulfilling your obligations as a citizen in a democracy. If you're not, get busy—if you are, keep it up. The faculty and I join in wishing you the best of everything. If you ever sense someone looking over your shoulder, it's we who have spent the past years boosting you along— still boosting. 4 Mr. Mike Dockstader FACULTY Mr. Dale Dean Social Studies Mr. Mike Dockstader Principal, English Mr. John Neill Science Mrs. Margret Goldhahn Librarian Mr. Walter Hansen Commercial Mr. Richard Blake Coach, Math Mr. Terry Hebert Coach, Civics World Geography Miss Helen Bibler Speech, English Mr. Tim Davison Music 5 FACULTY Mr. Tom Briney Guidance Counselor not pictured Mrs. Jeannie Spurgeon Upholstery Mrs. Rita Peters Kindergarten SCHOOL BOARD Row One: Bruce Thompson, Elmer Dammel, Stan Smith.
