FOREWORD Dear Reader: We, the class of 1964, take great pleasure in presenting to you this SAFARI. In this SAFARI we have attempted to give you the school year of 1963-1964 in pictures. We indeed hope that we have succeeded in this attempt. You will notice that this book is divided into eleven main categories, these being: administration, high school faculty, seniors, juniors, sophomores, freshmen, organizations, athletics, jr.-high, and grades. This helped us to keep the year in orderly and logical secquence and we trust that it will help you to enjoy our book more. This is not a perfect annual; nor is it a profess- ional one. But we do think that it will give you the school year 1963-1964 at a glance. Sincerely, Peggy Atchison, Editor 2

SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE MR. RALPH HECKER We are approaching the end of another school year. It has been a highly successful term with several distinct marks of progress and improve- ment. May the SAFARI point out some of the visi- ble signs of achievement; and may each and every one of our students, teachers and friends be able to read between lines and visualize things we did and accomplished. Many-sided pursuits fullfill our purpose of developing well-rounded individuals. Balanced activities in and out of the classroom provide the method; eager students; qualified teachers, work- able curriculum and adequate physical plant make the method effective. Attention to the individual guides the emphasis to assist the student in gaining knowledge, person- ality, and character. This background in educa- tion is one of the best assets an individual may possess to meet the challenges in life. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Action! The symbol of the Class of Nineteen Sixty-four is one of the most expansive words in our language. Deeds great and small; conduct of self, behavior acceptable at all times in whatever walk of life one finds himself; initiative, that spark which must supersede success; enterprise, the knowledge and ambition to do ones best; all these and much more are action, The best proof of ability. It has been an explicit pleasure for me and the Staff to have had the opportunity to direct and advise, while you gleaned knowledge and formed habits which, I am sure, will be put to the best possible use for your generation, your Country and yourselves. 4 MR. JOHN MARTIN
