Text from Pages 1 - 104 of the 1962 volume:

Published by Safari Staff Geraldine High School Geraldine, Montana £30 DEDICATION Teenagers everywhere must have a place where they can feel at home away from home. They must have somewhere to go to discuss the pleasures or the displeasures of the day. In Geraldine, many went to Roy’s place where they could have a coke, a sandwich, or even a full meal. If they were short of cash, they knew they could charge it and wait a few days until they were able to pay Roy. Thus it is to the memory of Roy Hayes, who did so much to help Geraldine teenagers, that we, the Safari Staff of 62, dedicate this an- nual. ADMINISTRATION The quality of mercy is not strained; It droppeth, as the gentle rain from heaven Upon the place beneath; it is twice bless’d — It blesseth him that gives, and him that takes. SHAKESPEARE SUPERINTENDENTS MESSAGE MR. RALPH HECKER My sincere congratulations to the Class of 1962 on suc- cessfully passing their first hurdle in their journey through life. It is my sincere wish that our three institutions of learning the home; the church; the school will stand by and assist every one of you in making your chosen career suc- cessful throughout your life. It is cherished by your parents and community that all will become outstanding citizens and always be a credit to society in whom our school will be justly proud. The background that you have retained cannot be measured; however knowledge acquired, character molded, and person- ality strengthened are a few of these invisible accomplish- ments. These qualities were instilled in every student enter- ing and passing the hurdles of the Geraldine Public School System. May this annual serve not only as a reminder of your achievements, but also as a memento, when in years to to come, you wish to recall a forgotten face, a cherished memory, or merely relive your school days. PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE MR. ORVILLE LINDQUIST As our school year nears it’s end, we should all stop to evaluate what we have accomplished. In education we as the faculty attempt to develop the student mentally and socially to meet the needs of his environment in later life. Individuals who attend school on the secondary level should be better qualified to go out into this world and also to con- tribute more things of value to their communities. The teachers, through their teaching and continued guidance, can do a lot for the individual, but the individual has to cooperate in order to achieve the great values which can be derived from education. OFFICE SECRETARY Mrs. John Mogstad BUS DRIVERS Les Thompson Buster Sullivan Ralph Rowland School IBo rril s 31 essage ELMER DAMMEL Chairman Each year occasions arise which cause us to think that our school isn’t running as was planned, but as the school year nears its end, things look better, we can see that much has been accomplished and we are thankful. To the underclassmen, we say, there is no other place in the world where you can get a high school education just for the asking. Irregardless of what enemy propaganda says, the American educa- tional system is basically sound and good, so take advantage of the opportunity and make the best of it. To the seniors, congratulations, and remember, it is only a few short years until you will be making the decisions that will guide our school systems and our country. Be wise, prudent and honorable and you will make few mistakes. It has been an honor to serve you, we hope we haven't failed you. Last but not least, the best school system in the world is only as good as its faculty. We wish to thank our faculty for a job well done. I dare do all that way become a man Who dares do more, is none. SHAKESPEARE MR. KEITH ANDERSON English Band, Pep Band and Chorus Freshman Class Sponsor A.B. - Humboldt State College MR. We elected our class officers and sponsor for that year. President: Leah Schwandt, Vice President: Ron Russell, Secretary-Treasurer: Nancy Nichols, Student Council Repre- sentative: Judy Rudin and our sponsor was Mr. Irons. Trilby Miller and Leah Schwandt were cheerleaders that year. Our activities consisted of painting the G, giving a Freshman Return Party, and making a float for Orange and Black Day. During March of 1959 we gained another member, Carol Breuer, who transferred from Sunburst. Our sophomore year we were more experienced in our quest for education when we entered the door of G.H.S. again. This year three former members were gone. We elected our officers who were President: Judy Rudin, Vice President: Leah Schwandt, Secretary-Treasurer: Leonard Johnson, Student Council Representative: Floyd Danbrook, and our sponsor was Mr. Leach. Activities for the year were initiating the freshmen and making a float for the Homecoming Parade. Lois Corley started twirling and Leah Schwandt became a cheerleader. Kelly Walker and Floyd Danbrook were the Junior Prom Princess and Prince. The junior year of the Class of ‘62 was a busy one. We lost three members and also gained three. We elected our officers for the year. They were President: Trilby Miller, Vice President; Nancy Nichols, Secretary-Treasurer: Kathy Hicks, Student Council Representative: Carol Breuer, and our sponsor was Mr. Lang. We put on the Orange and Black Day Dance, a play entitled Bull In A China Shop, ” the prom Around the World, and the Junior-Senior Banquet. Carol Breuer was elected as the Orange and Black Day Queen. In our last year of the journey to graduation, twelve seniors marched through the doors of G.H.S. We elected our officers for the year knowing we had a full year be- fore us. President: Nancy Nichols, Student Council Representative: Floyd Danbrook, and our sponsor was Mr. Harlow. The activities were many with the class play, Aunt Susie Shoots the Works, the Alumni Tea, the annual. Class Night, Baccalaureate, and Graduation. Kathy Hicks and Floyd Danbrook were Prom King and Queen, and Carol Breuer was queen candidate. CLASS PROPHEC The Class of 1962 met at the home of the former Kelly Walker in the heart of Geraldine for their 1982 class reunion. Lois Corley was the first to arrive. She is now a famous psychologist and is studying the behavior of horses. She has had several run in the Kentucky Derby but her psychology with them hasn't worked very well. Lois has eight children whom she uses for jockies. She was followed by Dorothy Spevacek who met her destiny quite early in the acrobatic profession and is now traveling in a wheel chair. She still carries out a part of her career, however. She is the one and only tightrope walker who can ride a wheelchair while she performs. Next to arrive was Nancy Nichols, Nancy is now the head dietitian of the Antarctica General Hospital. By prescribing to others what they should eat, she isn't the only one with a weight problem. She sees to it that other people have one too. A few minutes later Nancy Tadej made her entrance. Nancy is a confirmed man- hater, living in a lighthouse off the coast of Nova Scotia. She spends her time writing novels and is becoming quite wealthy. The rest of the class arrived at one time when their chartered jet landed at the Geraldine Airport. Carol Bruer is a dental assistant. She had a slight accident before she came to the reunion. One of her patients bit her hand as she was extracting his tooth. Tom Fields is still a bachelor, working as a forest ranger in a. foreign country. He is seriously considering swapping his airplane for an Arab's harem. Alida Little is a secretary and is still sitting on the boss’s lap. Things are different now, the boss is her husband. We find Judy Rudin an old maid music teacher. She has recently decided to be- come an inventor. She wants a man bad. Linwood King owns one of the largest bakeries in the Northwest. His bakery specializes in zweiback bread and bagles. He is married to an attractive girl and is the father of three children. Kelly’s nursing career was short and sweet. The first day she worked in the hospital, she eloped with one of the patients. Floyd Danbrook has been very successful in his career as a construction worker. He spends his time driving up the Canadian hills with his bulldozer. He gave up trying to make his first million and is starting on the second. Kathy Hicks is the typical picture of an old maid school teacher. Her thoughts are centered around Spanish and not men. She looks as if she were one hundred because her students are beginning to get her down. Our sponsor, Mr. Harlow, was unable to attend because he was attending the wedding of his daughter.
