9- Seated: Margie Brewer, Sally Bronson, Delores Fairbanks, Earlene Duvall, Jean Thomas. Standing: Coach Jesperson. Rita Slowey, Vera Blyth, Alice Tanner, Martha Bell, Jeanie Thomas. Irene Owen. Fifteen enthusiastic girls reported for the first practice of the season: among them were seven returning letterwomen-Rita Slowey, Jean Thomas, Vera Blyth, Jeanie Thomas, Margie Brewer, Delores Fairbanks and Sally Bronson. Mr. Jesperson coached the team and Irene Owen was student manager. By appointment a different girl acted as captain to the team during each com- petitive game. Rita Slowey was elected honorary captain for the year and in that capacity was to pilot the team through the Annual Augusta Invitational Tournament. However, illness prevented her from participating in all the games at Augusta and Vera Blyth was selected by the team to serve in her place. Vera Blyth received a tournament award for being the outstanding guard on the team. Game scores for the year were as follows: REGULAR SEASON PLAY Geraldine Centerville Geraldine Girls Y Geraldine Centerville Geraldine Highwood Geraldine Highwood AUGUSTA TOURNAMENT 43rd placel Geraldine 32 Augusta Geraldine 25 Highwood Geraldine Z9 Power Those girls who were out for their first year of basketball were given as many opportunities to play in inter-school games as the scoring would permit in order to gain some experience on which to build future teams. The following girls received letters for this year: , Rita Slowey, Margie Brewer, Jeanie Thomas, Sally Bronson. Vera Blyth, Jean Thomas, Alice Tanner, Delores Fairbanks.
