FRESHNXAN HISTORY .'NQ'Tf'. .,! X . Fourteen eager beaver freshmen entered Geraldine High on September 8. 1947. Almost immediately we were inducted into the ranks of the regulars through the ceremony of initiation. conducted under the auspices of the Sophomore class. This did not keep us from ploughing straight ahead although we were embarrassed by the foolish costumes we had to wear around town and to classes. True, it was hard to sit com- fortably but the Sophomores' paddles kept us moving. We also had a good deal of rock picking to do. We tackled this job enthusiastically. anxious to get it over with but intermittent rain prolonged the agony for several weeks before we finally had the football field in good playing condition. By that time new goal posts had been erected and we were set to work with wire brushes on those. We completed this rubdown job just in time for the posts to be painted before the Geyser game. At our first class meeting, Mrs. Vail was chosen sponsor and the following officers were elected: Beryl Rucker, president: Mary Lou Bronson. vice-president: Joyce Henderson, secretary-treasurer: and Dorothy Harvey. reporter. The class provided refreshments at one of the Wednesday night school dances given early in the year and had charge of the candy and popcorn booth at the Carnival in November. Both of these experiences impressed the girls with the importance of taking Home Economics later in their high school careers. Our biggest undertaking, however, was our return party which was given on December 16. In tune with the season, the party combined the Christmas motif with a program dance. Old St. Nick was there in top form, gifts were exchanged and several novelty dances provided variety in the program. We all worked hard on this party and were happy to start the New Year with our social obligations properly repaid.

Bill Bronson. halfhack with three letters. was captain of our team this year. Bill W was an outstanding player and made more ' than his share of the tackles. Buck Juedeman, quarterback with one letter, acted as captain when Bill was out of the line up. Buck was small and light but was always in there fight- ing until the last whistle sounded. Herb Bailey. quarterback with one letter. Herb always had a good football spirit, and could be relied on to play a good hard game.
