CONTACT WITH THE HARDSHTPS OF IQIFE AT TECH COMES ON REGISTRATION DAY WHEN ITS EVERY MAN FOR HIMSELF THE SOUNDS OF FOOTBALL, classes, rush, and parties once again permeate the air. Another year of college begins. Fall quarter is here! For freshmen it is the beginning of a very thrilling four year period in their life. For upper- classman it is just another step along the rough road of life. As the quarter begins, fraternities bustle with theiac- tivity of rush. Meals, smokers, and parties are given in an effort to show the rushees the advantages a fraternity has to oiler them. Then pledge Sunday arrives and each fra- ternityis efforts are rewarded. As the thrill of pledge Sunday dies, the campus becomes alive with the talk of football. Everywhere can be heard the Sunday quarterbacks discussing how they would have played last week's game or giving their analysis of how strong this week's opponent is. On Saturdays though, they all sit in the stand and cheer the Yellow Jackets on to victory. As the season progresses, student thought starts to center on one game-Tech versus Duke. This game is Homecoming. Homecoming 1959-Ramblin' Reck Pa- rades, fraternity exhibits, Freshman Cake Race, Duke's victory, the over zealous grads, the Kingston Trio, and Miss Sandra Swatek, Homecoming Queen. The Fall quarter is a busy one, but nevertheless, the George P. Burdells find ample time to devote to their studies. Everyone hits the books during the week in an effort to get off to a good start. lr
