RICHARD JACOB HELPS CONDUCT FRESHMEN VOTING: THE FIRST OF THE YEAR'S STUDENT ELECTIONS The frustrations of school work begin +o show: Man, I came that close to getting a C on that calculus quiz. Early Eall Means Rush and Parties THEN IT COMES! Freshmen become overpowered by fraternity men, who seek theirf presence at meals, smokers, and parties. Date tickets are issued, filled out, and collected. ln the days that follow, fraternity men entertain the lucky rushees with rush girls, musi- cal shows, comedy acts, and dances. All the While, fraternity man and rushee inspect each other and try to make the diliicult decision. As the week draws to a close, tension mountsg active and rushee contemplate the otheris decision. Pledge Sunday finally comes- as a satisfying experience and a welcome relief. Within a short time comes freshman student coun- cil elections. Excitement again mounts, and in the last few days, the constant knocking on dormitory doors signifies the intensity of the campaigning.

Gerry Carson arouse-s enthusiasm prior 'ro an important game: cheerleaders helped success of many a Tech team. Football Games And Homecomin AS THE QUARTER wears on, weekdays become drab and dull in comparison to the weekends. Classes finally become drudgery and students begin living for the weekend when football spirit and festivities take the spotlight. After Saturdayis game and the after-the-game party, Monday morning rolls around and the weekly cycle begins again. During late October the Whole campus begins en- thusiastic preparation for the forthcoming festivities of Homecoming. Globs of paper mache, mazes of wire, Wheels, and electric motors appear in front of :fraternity housesg while engines, frames, electric Welders, and dirty mechanics form an equally inter- esting sight behind the same houses. Each campus organization and fraternity nominates a candidate for Homecoming Queen who, When selec- ted, will reign over the festivities of the colorful Week- end. One Week prior to Homecoming the judges select from the bevy of beautiful girls Miss Sue Redfern as Techls 1957 Homecoming Queen. During the Week Sue makes several appearances on campus and at- tends many functions in her honor.
