Since this time the department has grown steadily until now it has an enrollment of approximately two hundred and fifty. CHARLES ALFRED JONES, B.S. Head of the Department of Textile Engineering In order to serve the South and to keep up with the progress of the rapidly expanding textile industry a Textile Engineering Department was established in 1899. It was the first of its kind in the South and now is one of the largest and most efficient. Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering The Department of Electrical Engineering was established in 1896. Students are given a compre- hensive training in the fundamental sciences of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Applied Mechanics as well as in Electrical subjects. FRANKLIN C. SNOW, C.E., Sc.D. Head of the Department of Civil Engineering The Department of Civil Engineering was estab- lished in 1896. Since then it hs grown to be one of the largest departments in the school. It is in par- ticular an important one, for all students must take at least one year of General Chemistry. ARTHUR VAN HENRY, Cer.E., M.Sc., Ph.D. Head of the Deparfmenf of Ceramic' Engim'cring The Department of Ceramic Engineering, the first south of the Ohio River, was established in 1924. The aim of the department is to assist in develop- ing Georgia's vast beds of ceramic materials and to encourage industrial growth. Arthur Van Henry Floyd Field FLOYD FIELD, A.B., A.M. Dean of MC'Il and Head of flat' Dc'par1'mr'nf of Maflovmafics Besides his duties as Head of the Department of Mathematics, Professor Field, as Dean of Men, has charge of all fraternity matters. In this regard he sponsors activities that create good will for the fraternities, and also passes on the eligibility of men for initiation. HAROLD BUSH-BROWN, A.B., M.Arch. Head of the Department of Acronazlfics The Daniel Guggenheim School of Aeronautics was established in 1930 through a gift from the Daniel Guggenheim Fund. An undergraduate course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science and graduate courses leading to the degree of Master of Science are offered. THOMAS WILLIAM NOEL, A.B., M.B., C.P.A. Head of lbcf School of Commerce The School of Commerce was organized in the year 1912. Since that time it grew until the en- rollment reached approximately four hundred fifty. By action of the Board of Regents of Georgia, however, it was abolished in 1933. The degree offered is Bachelor of Science in Commerce. The last class to graduate with this degree is the class of 1934. Thomas William Noel James Erskine McDaniel JAMES ERSKINE MCDANIEL, M.A., A.B., LL.B. Head of flae C0-0l7L'l'llfiL'f' Department In answer to real need the Georgia School of Technology, in 1912, offered a five-year Co-opera- tive course for those students who wish to combine practical experience with technical theory. The scholastic requirements of this department are high and only students who already have high averages may enroll. THOMAS I-I. QUIGLEY, A.B., B.S.
