Nostalgia became very popular this year, and everyone has been interested in taking a look at the past. We are no exceptiong and with a little digging we came up with some pictures of Georgia Southwestern in its early years along with a short history. Here and on the following pages we would like to give you a glimpse ofthe past with a contrast- ing view ofthe present. Georgia Southwestern College was founded in 1908 as the Third District Agricultural and Mechanical School and was a state-supported secondary school. ln 1926 the General Assembly granted a charter making the school eligible to offer two years of college work and changing the name to the Third District Agricultural and Normal College. In 1932, by legislative enactment this and other schools in the state were organized into the University System of Georgia and placed under the Board of Regents. The college continued its program while changing the name to Georgia Southwestern College. 1973 College Bulletin
