The surge which began in the mid-fifties has today blossomed into a complete, multi-purpose academic program offering five undergraduate degrees in some thirty major fields, and four graduate degree programs in sixteen fields, plus a six-year program in education in seven fields. 10

The effect of the man is evident in the burgeoning campus of today, with over four thousand students and thirty-two build- ings, and in the far-sighted and carefully planned comprehensive development program which President Henderson initiated and which is already underway with construction on the Hanner Gym annex and the first phase of the science building complex. Georgia Southern — the college today — stands as a tribute, as a concrete indication of the vision, ability and strength of the man — Zach Suddath Henderson. 12
