GMC 22 SOUTHERN UNION 14 This game, played in Wadley. Alabama. found the Bulldogs hitting mid-season form. Larry Laster, returning to action after thc injury received against Gardner-Webb. scored two touchdowns and rammed over one extra point. The Bulldogs took command from the kickoff. moved to the Southern Union 25-yard line where Laster rolled out around left end behind good blocking to cross into the end Zone standing up. Larry Baynham added the PAT. GMC's winning touchdown was scored by halfback Alex Browne from Statesboro who relieved Wayne Holley when the latter was injured following a sparkling run that set up GMC's second score. Browne raced 27 yards for the clincher that spoiled Southern Union's Homecoming. GMC 33 MARION INSTITUTE 0 This game was Homecoming for GMC and the proverbial Battle of Cadets. As usual, it was a thriller with the Bulldogs manufacturing most of the excitement. It was a team effort with several players having a hand in the scoring. Halfback Bob Walters of North Augusta. South Carolina, lugged the leather 8 yards in the first quarter for the Bulldogs' lirst score. then caught a 30-yard pass from Larry Laster and raced 20 more for the second touchdown that came early in the third quarter. Laster got the third, on a sneak in the same period and Larry Baynham supplied the extra point to make it 19-0. The other two GMC tallies came in the fourth period, one on a sneak by Larry Pasquale after sensational running by Lanier Gunby and Johnny Daher had moved the ball from the Marion 48. Daher scored the fifth GMC touchdown and Pasquale ran for two extra points to cap GMC's most decisive victory of the season thus far.

GMC 0 MIDDLE GEORGIA O It was a case of history repeating, but with a slightly different cast, on the night of Oct. 2 when the Bulldogs traveled to Cochran to meet another old rival, the Wolverines of Middle Georgia College. Both teams made threats, the Bulldogs setting up a hrst down on the enemy two-yard line in the second quarter. and GMC stopping Coach Cliff Coggin's boys on the four in the third period. But, as in the 1957 game, neither team could score and the game ended in another scoreless deadlock. Sonny Mobley, aggressive Bulldog right end, was the only casualty with a leg injury. The hard running of Doug Williams, who netted 44 yards in 12 carries. was the GMC highlight. Larry Laster called a heady game at quarterback and got off some nice runs. Ramsey Parker played another fine game at left end for GMC. GMC l3 GARDNER-WEBB 7 A harvest moon and an enthusiastic hometown crowd brought good luck to the cadets for this one. Johnny Prince and Leon Estes were the acting captains for the tilt with the Baptists from North Carolina and they proved good leaders. Guard Bill Murphy and end Ramsey Parker also played good ball on the GMC line. Halfbacks Bobby Walters and Wayne Holley, quarterback Larry Laster and veteran fullback Doug Williams furnished the fireworks in push- ing over two touchdowns while Larry Baynham kicked the lone extra point. Gardner-Webb finally scored late in the game on a 76-yard drive against the GMC reserves. A feature of thc game was Baynham's booming 60-yard kick which set the Tarheels back on their haunches. Two of GMC's brightest stars, Prince and Laster, received injuries. Prince broke an ankle and was lost for the season, while Laster received a kidney injury that sidelined him for a week.

GMC 20 WEST GEORGIA 0 The Bulldogs' game with South Georgia at Douglas - second of two to be scheduled with the Tigers in 1958 - was cancelled Nov. l when nearly the entire cadet squad came down with the flu. including all three varsity centers. on the eve of the game. After a week's layoff, the Bulldogs journeyed to Carrollton on Nov. 15 to play West Georgia, an old and honored foe. The first half was scoreless as West Georgia battled furiously before a partisan crowd of IS00. but Johnny Daher broke the charm when he dashed lOl yards through a broken field on the kickoff return starting the second half. This demoralized the West Geor- gians and Laster's 30-yard dash on a keep and Doug Williams' 40-yard gallop on a fullback handoff were icing on the cake. The GMC line, led by Dewey Ward, Leon Estes, Billy Murphy. Larry Baynham and Doug Cox, continued to play fine ball despite a siege of penalties. GMC 40 GORDON MILITARY COLLEGE O This was the game that really counted. It was a bright, brisk autumn day when these old rivals met in Barnesville on Thanksgiving Day with Gordon favored by one to three touch- downs. However. the Bulldogs were as frisky as colts and, from the opening kickoff, they were in command. lt was all-GMC from the time Larry Laster charged 19 yards around right end for the first touchdown with about half the first quarter gone. The l90-pound quarterback from Porterdale repeated on the same play from three yards out a few minutes later. Johnny Daher bucked over two extra points. Just before the half ended, Laster grabbed a pass and dashed 35 yards down to the Gordon five. A penalty moved the ball to the one and Doug Williams took it across for the tally. Coach Lew Cordell sent in his second unit midway in the third quarter and they, along with Larry Baynham's 19-yard field goal, soon gave the Bulldogs a comfortable margin. Wayne Holley and Lanier Gunby added two touchdowns and Larry Pasquale, in the game for Laster, scored two extra points. GMC outrushed the Barnes- ville boys, I5 first downs to three and 282 yards to 4l, in this most thrilling of all GMC's l958 victories, and one of Coach Cordell's greatest,
