essage to the Students As President of the Georgia State College for Wfomen, l greet you and wish for you all happiness and success in your college life. Since the College was established in 1889, it has been unique in its ideals and standards. The purpose of its leaders has always been to provide for the young women of Georgia a type of educa- tion that would give them practical training for teaching, home- malqing, and other fields of interest for women, and at the same time would develop cultured women and useful citizens ready to take their places in the community life as individuals of well- rouncled character. lVe have striven to carry out this purpose, while the students pursued the course of study which forms their academic training in college, by holding ever before them the ideal of growth of personality through radiant health, pleasing, attractive manners, a fine college spirit of co-operation, democracy, and service, serious application ,to studies, and high standards of scholarship. lVhen a white ray of light passes through a prism, it is bent twice from its course in the same direction and the colors are separated to form a spectrum. I trust that after you complete your education here, others may see each of you as a white light viewed through the prism of college experience as a spectrum com- posed of the separate qualities of health, charm, culture, character, friendship, scholarship, and servicei radiant as a white light and beautiful to the eyes as the rainbow tints. gl. L. BEESON.
