iras Our annual has at last been completed, and we are very proud of our efforts. The an- nual staff has worked hard and long on it, but we have learned much and have enjoyed the work. Even if we became discouraged at times, we have tried to make the annual a success. We, the annual staff, hope that all of you enjoy reading it and that it may serve in years to come as a happy reminder of the 1963-64 school year. As you browse through the book in later years, we hope that it will make you smile and recall “the good old days at GCS.” Many people have contributed to the production of this annual, and we, the editors, would like to first recognize the helpfulness of the annual staff. They have worked well to- gether. We would like to thank Bro. Hudelston, our advisor, for all the assistance he has given us. We certainly could not have done the work without him. Next, we would like to thank the many businesses and individuals who bought ads. It is to these people, whose monetary contributions have made this annual possible, that we perhaps owe our greatest debt of gratitude. We are also grateful to Bro. Wakefield and the faculty who gave us a boost and time out of classes to work on the annual. We appreciate the opportunity that we have had in serving the school as editor of the 1963-64 PINE EMBERS, and we will always remember it as an honor and a privilege to have been selected for this job. Yours truly, 2 Table of Contents Faculty Administration Organization Athletics Activities Favorites Elementary Junior High Freshmen Sophomores Juniors Seniors Advertisers 4 Brother Jesse Hudelston We the Annual Staff of 1964 are very proud to dedicate our edition of the 1964 Pine Embers to our very dear friend and teacher, Bro. Jesse Hudelston. He has been a great benefactor in many of our lives. His sincere teaching and his vari- able personality have touched all our hearts at one time or the other. Whenever we of the annual staff needed help he was always there to lend a helping hand. We, of the staff and all of the school, deeply appreciate the attitude and the sincerity of this great man. Many a time has Bro. Hudelston said a bright remark which has brightened our lives from day to day. His religious background has inspired many a heart on campus in the two years he has been here. A native of Tennessee where the mountains rise high he came, but we, of G. C. S„ truly hope he has the old dry sand of South Georgia in his shoes so he will stay with us many more 5 enjoyable years. In the heart of Southern Georgia 'Neath the sun's warm glow, Lies the home of Georgia Christian Finest place we know. Tho' we leave thy walls forever. Many miles go hence. May our love for Georgia Christian Only have commenced. Chorus May we cherish thy tradition, Hold thy banner high. Ever guard thy name with fervor, Live to do or die. Audie L. The opportunities to serve you young people in your spiritual development as well as your academic and social growth has been a wonderful experience. I trust and pray that your experiences this year at Georgia Christian School have given you the courage and deter- mination to always do your best in keeping with God's will. With whatever facts and skills you gain, may your dependence always rest in God and his Word. The future holds for you a fabulous store-house of tech- nological advances, changing social order, a smaller world through better and faster transportation and communication, and greater opportunities for taking Christ to every creature. The key to this store-house is knowledge and wisdom. As you obtain and use this key, may you always seek to lay hold on the best parts in an effort to have a better world and a stronger hope for the world to come, 'the Heavenly city of God.' In Christian love, Howard R. Wakefield High School Principal 10 Elementary Principal’s Message I I I I Dear Students, This school year is rapidly coming to an end. We should stop and meditate on the things that we need to do. There are probably some deeds of kindness that we have left undone. Seniors, since this is your last year, your life status will be changing. I believe that each of you will ac- cept the responsibility that is placed upon you. 1 sin- cerely hope that each of you will have a happy and fruitful future. Don’t forget the most important thing in your life, Christ. Your friend. Benjamin Franklin I DAVID LIPSCOMB COLLEGE Offers Christian Education PRESIDENT ATHENS CLAY PULLIAS of David Lipscomb College is a pioneer in year-round operation for colleges and universities. He has a personal message for graduates of Christian schools in this connection: “Year-round education is a logical development in Christian education. Lips- comb’s supreme goal is to enable each student to grow as Jesus grew: ‘And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.’ (Luke 2:52.) It is unthinkable that three months of each precious year Jesus spent in prepara- tion for His work on earth could have been wasted in idleness. “God has a purpose for each of us, and the years allotted for the fulfilment of this purpose are too few for us to waste even a fractional part of any of them. I plead with every young person who has dedicated his or her life to Christ to consider the urgency, as well as the personal advantages, of year-round Christian education.” ----- Personal Advantages of YEAR-ROUND Education ♦ Few students can find summer employment that will pay as well as they will be rewarded for com- pleting a full quarter’s work in college. ♦ By completing requirements for the B.S. or B.A. in three years, the graduate can usually expect to earn in the fourth year an income equal to the cost of his three years in college. ♦ Students who feel they must work at least one quarter each year to help finance their education will find it more profitable to enroll in the summer quar- ter and work four full months in the fall—September through December—when employment and earning opportunities are much better. ♦ For professions that require post-graduate train- ing, year-round education has the advantage of saving a full year and thus shortening by one year the long period of preparation required. ♦ By taking advantage of year-round education, the student helps others as well as himself. With full acceptance of four-quarter enrollment, approximately one-third more young people can share the benefits of Christian education at Lipscomb; the College can keep its highly valuable plant and facilities in full operation one-third more of the time; and the church, community and nation will profit as graduates are qualified to assume adult responsibilities at an earlier age. ♦ In addition to all of the foregoing advantages, Lipscomb offers approximately seven weeks of vaca- tion time to students and teachers who participate in the year-round program. THE ONLY REAL BARRIER to four-quarter edu- cation is long outmoded custom and tradition. Neither the church nor America can afford for you to take a vacation from learning in these critical times. For further information about year-round study at Lipscomb leading to the B.A. or B.S. degree in one of more than 20 different academic fields, write ATHENS CLAY PULLIAS, President WILLARD COLLINS, Vice-President MACK WAYNE CRAIG, Dean DAVID LIPSCOMB COLLEGE nashville,Tennessee37203 110 FREED-HARDEMAN COLLEGE Henderson, Tennessee Follow in the steps of these former classmates to Freed- Hardeman College .
