PINE EMBERS 1963 FOREWORD As you go through this year's Pine Embers, we hope that it will bring back to you the ■memory of one of the best years of your life. In compiling this annual we have tried to give you a yearbook which in years to come will be cherished for its memories of dear friends and happy school days. It has required the co-operation of our sponsor, students, staff, and those who have contributed their support through advertise- ments. We wish to thank you who have helped us. To future graduates, may we present a challenge to do your best work—never to abandon your search for knowledge and truth. is jlMzJL LlJ The Editors 2 CONTENTS Organizations Athletics Activities Favorites Faculty Elementary Jr. High Freshmen Sophomores Juniors Seniors Advertisers To our helpful and understanding teacher, coach, and friend who has rendered every service possible to uphold the spirit of Georgia Christian; to one of our most devoted and lovable teachers. We hope that this will be his happiest reminder of his days with us at Georgia Christian. We, the annual staff, proudly dedicate this edition of The Pine Embers to our very own — Brother Wayne Wright IN MEMORY OF HERMAN STOREY Herman, a 15 year old sophomore, was killed in an auto- mobile accident December 20, 1962. His death left our hearts sad with the knowledge that we would no longer be greeted with his friendly smile and mischievous but winning ways. Loved by all, and loving all, he was known as the little boy with the smile for everyone. 5 ALMA MATER In the heart of southern Georgia 'Neath the sun's warm glow. Lies the home of Georgia Christian Finest place we know. Tho' we leave thy walls forever Many miles go hence, May our love for Georgia Christian, Only have commenced, chorus May we cherish thy tradition. GENERALS Fred seems to have the girls all to himself at lunch. A familiar scene, right, Wesley? Skipping class to get her book re- port, Anita seems to think Miss Smith is pretty handy with that paddle. We are very proud of our new student center, which has provided for us many enjoyable hours. Note the expression on Sterling's face. DAY What a day. Do we have to go to cheerleading practice?? 29 The day is over, but not for these boys. Caught in the act! When I say three, lets run! We have had the finest student body and faculty ever in the history of the school. The impressions made during the years spent at G.C. S. will alwaysbeforemostinthemindsofeachstudent. The addition of our new cafeteria and the new student only have proven to be very enjoyable, but they stand as symbols of the growth to be expected in the future. Each underclassman will look forward to returning and having a part in the great future of G.C.S. The Seniors will long be proud of their old Alma Mater. While we hope that the Academic achievements at G.C.S. will longbe valuable to each one, we hope that the spiritual values estab- lished while a student at G.C.S. will bring eternal rewards. There are many happy memories found in its pages which you will cherish for a long time. The annual will mean more to you a few years in the future. Be sure that you put it in a safe place. They will realize that there are many responsibilities to face in the coming years, and that the mold they make now will be how their life will look. As they go through their Jr. High, Freshman, and Sophomore years, and into their Junior year, they'll begin to look forward to their Senior year and the time of Graduation. With this in mind, they begin to put away their childish ways. As they finally reach the last mile in High School, they will realize that getting that far was not a one-man job but has been achieved with the help of their principal, teachers, and classmates. They will realize that they could not have made it without them and will appreciate their help more than words can express. Then as their Senior year comes to a close, a new responsibility faces them, THE WORLD, and our book of time with them will close. 60 JUNIOR HIGH SEVENTH Kathy Green Don Butler Mike Hassler Aaron Copeland Edna Hodges Wanda Dixon Gwen Landers Steve Hobbs Daniel Pederson Henry Dutton 62 Wilks Pollock Andy Sykes Becky Reeves Judy Wakefield Pam Sterling Melba Ann Webb Margaret Swymer Susan Vanderslice Larry Sapp Linda Jones 63 EIGHTH Gary Bradford Susan Clark Jimmy Copeland 64 Diane Lawlor Bobby Lester Steve Lilly Jerry Mayer GRADE Joe Mixson Billy Naylor Butch Neal 65 Billy Tomlinson Steve Wakefield Tommy William Ashley McLeod F A V 0 R 1 T E S DIANE LAWLOR - TOMMY WILLIAMS (L-R) B. And So Goodbye, Assistant Editor Photographer President Athens Clay Pullias of David Lipscomb College invites you to Consider the Advantages of fear-round Education Graduates of Christian high schools and junior colleges should be interested in complet- ing their education in the short- est possible time. The church stands in dire need of active young members prepared to groiv into leadership in the Lord’s work all over the world. • $o AU ‘ifa J®hmn Cljfar fetters (Cmnr (Smfiitg President Athens Clay Pullias has presented nearly 2000 degree certificates to Lipscomb graduates majoring in 24 different fields of study since the first senior college class was graduated in 1948. Lipscomb successfully initiated year-round education with a full fourth quarter opening in June, 1962. More than 100 first-term fresh- men enrolled in programs that will permit them to graduate in June, 1965. Hereafter, freshman classes will begin in June and September each year. Commencements will be held in June and August. Junior college graduates also save time by be- ginning their senior college work at Lipscomb in June instead of September. Few young peo- ple can find summer employment that will re- ward them as well as will completion of a quarter’s work in college. Students planning to study in professional or graduate schools after receiving the B.S. or B.A. degree will benefit from year-round education by thus shortening their overall period of preparation. Lipscomb offers pre-professional training in many fields and has awarded B.A. or B.S. degrees to nearly 2000 men and women majoring in 24 different areas of study since 1948. BOARDING STUDENTS HAVE A DEFI- NITE ADVANTAGE IN FOURTH QUARTER STUDY. By beginning their studies in June and making a satisfactory record in the summer quarter, they are guaranteed choice dormitory space for the more crowded fall quarter, since they will be permitted to retain the rooms as- signed for the summer. YOU HAVE BEGUN YOUR EDUCATION IN A CHRISTIAN SCHOOL which recognizes the importance of Bible study as preparation for any life work. Complete it at Lipscomb where every student is privileged to study the Bible every day while receiving superior academic training. Alumni of Lipscomb now furnish Christian leadership for the Lord’s church as well as in their professions and vocations throughout the United States and in other countries. This is your invitation to write for information about how you may join this great army of Christian men and women.
