Shnider, M.D., Dean Martin, Dean Clifton Himmelsbach, M.D., Dean GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE WASHINGTON. D. C. 20007 orP,c. or THE O.AN January 1971 To The Graduating Class Dear Colleagues: I am very pleased to have been invited to write this message. You are a grand class and I share the faculty ' s high opinion of your dedication and talent. The four years you have spent here at Georgetown represent the four most exciting years in the history of our school. Events of enormous significance in the 120 year history of our school have converged to this point in time. We have admitted our largest first year class. We have opened our new Medical Center Library, basic science building, labo- ratories and classrooms. A new curriculum has been imple- mented, one designed to better fit our students for the complex role of physician in modern society. You have read of the plight of higher education in the U nited States, particularly the problems of a fiscal nature, that are faced by the private universities and colleges. Georgetown shares these problems. Yet, we have received an extraordinary expression of confidence. As I write this letter, Georgetown leads all other schools in the United States in the number of applications for the medical school class entering September 1971. As you now enter the many diverse careers of service that you have selected, keep informed about Georgetown and keep us informed about you. We need to know about your successes and about the problems that you encounter as you make your way. We must know about your endeavors in order to remain contemporary. In this way, you will continue to have an influence on the goals our school sets for itself, and the way it reaches towards those goals. Warm good wishes for your futures and our future. Sincerely, (jtohn C. Rose, M.D. Dean Georgetown — 1 800 ' s Georgetown — 1900 ' s Georgetown — 2000 ' s?? Now that our four years of pleasant turmoil are ending, let us reflect upon the metamorphoses that have occurred before our very eyes (ofttimes imperceptible to the keenest observer, ofttimes pretty damn obvious)!! Events of enor- mous significance in the 120 year history of our school have converged to this point in time. Rest assured, Georgetown has been revolution- ary in its approach to medicine. In the vanguard are the radicals who teach Anatomy — ' ■? -«fc. ■4 f ' mm « fj ' Physiology had its beginnings in the myths and fears of prehistoric man.
