Nlissiles and satellites have turned all eyes skyward. Naturally. rhe military, scientific and technological aspects presented by the Soviet challenge have captured our concern and monopolized our energies. But we must remember that it is men who launch the missiles and the satellites, for purposes of good or evil. The explosive complications of cosmic power are human and moral. Therefore their solution must come from within man himself. The basic response of education to todayis pressures lies not in a program of better ballistics, despite its importance, but in one that produces better men. Through your period with us. Georgetown Prep has tried to develop your mind and heart and motivation. A fourfcentury-old tradition of scholarship and liberal education has endeavored to give you a sense of the enhancement of human dignity both in knowledge and wisdom: and a consciousness of the spiritual obligation encumbent upon each human being to develop his God-given talents. As we set our mark of approval on you as graduates of Georgetown Prep, we know that you will be true to your training and your responsibility. There is. of course. a sense in which you are not leaving Georgetown Prep. You cannot leave yourself and. in so many iways. Georgetown Prep is part of you: friends made in remembered hours these past years. principles etched deeply by the clash of mind on mind, values cherished in the slow revealing of a mature vision.
