Two months before you see an audience you are there for tryouts, then afternoons are gone, and the words Do it again” are the things you fear the most in the world. Every time you come off stage you can think of a thousand little things that would have made you, the character, more real. Then comes the moment when you KNOW you are two people — you and the person in the playbook. The night comes and all the fears are back, lines you know in your sleep are suddenly forgotten. You go on and are the person you have practiced to be, because that’s what it is all about. THE CAST AND THE DIRECTOR — S. Gynan, D. Rodgers, C. Catalanotti, K. Wood, L. Pirrotta, M. Egan, R. Next year, hopefully, will prove to be more rewarding in terms of a successful record of achievement. Christmas Concert 26 The 1973-1974 season of the wrestling team was marked by outstanding sportsman- ship and dedication on the part of team mem- bers. Coach Bob Baptista directed the efforts of the team with strong emphasis on individ- ual achievement. Marked progress was appar- ent, and although the team record was not stellar, the experience gained proved extremely valuable. Sports Night? The rwo pages you see here were originally reserved for the annual festivities of Sports Night, a night when the students and faculty join together for a series of eventful games, and to have a generally good time. Sports Night was destined not to be this year due to the energy crisis, which for the most part turned out to be a flop itslef — far worse on paper than in reality. Since we are mentioning the year’s eventful flops The Year of Europe” definitely deserves mention for not being. Instead we had a wonderful Year of Watergate” featuring, tapes and conversations that were, then weren’t. Transcripts that showed the true character of our (characterization deleted) President, and shocking revelations that brought to the fore the sordid way the most powerful positions in the land had been degraded and defiled. Our (inaudible) Vice (sic) President resigned due to something most clean living Americans could understand, tax evasion, and bribery. Certainly no mention of the years flops would be complete without the real biggy, the one we all didn’t see, The Comet of the Century.” Kahoetek, where are you, and what happened to the big show? Only three people out of a possible three billion got a good view. They were the Skylab astronauts, whose missions seemed to bore everyone to tears, except the scientists. Getting back to Earth, we had food boycotts, the Russian Wheat deal, the October war in the Middle East, the Strange, Mysterious, Continuing Saga of Patty Hearst, and the SLA, the strange revolution in Chile, the even stranger one in Portugal, and finally, the perennial favorite, the war in Vietnam, now in its twenty-sixth continuous season. (Of course now that we have Peace With Honor” it isn’t really fair to count Vietnam). Most recently we had a town election with mud slung liberally by both sides. To say anything more on that subject is to invite trouble. Of course, the year did have its good points too, but this page is devoted to the flops, the exercises in ridiculousness and futility. So look elsewhere for the finer moments. And Good Luck . . . MM 44 Bye Bye Birdie” was easily the most ambitious, and by far most difficult production ever under- taken by the Drama Club. In fact, whether or not a musical could even be done was long debated. The cast, band, and director proved that even in a small school such as ours people can be found who can rise to any occasion. Tribute to the play was received from the Living Presence Experimental The- atre, and the Birdie cast of Everett high. The praise of one actor for another does not come easy. The work behind the scenes at Birdie was as monumental as that seen on stage. In addition to the phenomenal number of props and costumes there was the added complication of orchestration, and lighting. Then along with the task of learning lines there were songs and choreography to be worked out. Anyone who saw the play knows how beautiful the end result of all the effort was. The play ran for three nights instead of the usual two, and with each successive night the cast AND the audience seemed to get better and better. The Drama Club will certainly have a hard time finding a play to top Bye Bye Birdie.” Track G’town 52 Lynnfield 79 G’town 77 Rockport 66 G’town 78 Amesbury 67 G’town 55 Triton 75 G’town 77 Pen tucket 52 G’town 70 N. It is late in June, we have graduated, and already drifted apart. The book was the creation of a few people in the class who have tried to tell the story of the class of 74. In it we have radically changed the way other books have been put together, and tried to save what was best. I want to thank the people who put this book together, as the year went on the staff got smaller and smaller, until now we have just two people to finish it. So here are the faithful few; Janice Pasquale, Tim Hughes, Rasa Mikulskis, Stephanie Gynan, Bob Segal, Val Benjamin, Dean Woodworth, and a few anonymous typists. Mr. Checkoway deserves special thanks, he not only kept our wild ambition under control, but also put a lot of the book together. I hope he has less problems with next years staff. It was a very strange year to put on paper, things were canceled, postponed, and changed constantly. Now that it is all over I ' m glad I had the chance to do it, but I don ' t think I ' d jump at the chance to do it again. I hope the book says as much to you as it does to me. Finally Miss Levesque stepped into the breach. The fact that she managed to unite a class that was at times bitterly factionalized and make the year as successful as it was, is far more of a tribute to her than a mere yearbook dedication. We had to make the gesture to let her know in a concrete way just how thankful we are for all the time and effort she made to make our class a better one. From all of us, thank you and good luck! 136 Now you know me . Can you feel it now? 4 C
