The GEORGIAN Published by the Senior Class Georgetown High School Georgetown, Massachusetts JUNE 1964

Page 6 text:

Our Senior year has been one steeped in history. Many events will be noted in the history texts of the future. Of these, two stand out. In August of 1963, a demon- stration was held. The inte- grated March on Washington was the most remarkable demonstration of the privi- leges the members of a demo- cratic society enjoy that this nation and the world has ever seen. Still, it was a call for equal rights and opportunities for all members of our society. In November of 1963, this nation witnessed an appalling spectacle, the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the thirty- fifth President of the United States. Whatever our per- sonal political beliefs. Presi- dent Kennedy was the elected leader, our elected leader; as such, he is mourned by a bereft nation. These events should teach us something. Our society is not perfect. The assassination of a President should make this quite clear. The necessity of a demonstration of the magni- tude of the March on Washing- ton is even more evidence. Yet, these have given us impressive examples of the positive aspects of our society. It is up to us, the youth of America, to dedicate our- selves to the task of making our society more nearly per- fect for coming generations. We can succeed; we cannot afford to fail. ... How many ages hence Shall this our lofty scene be acted over. In states unborn and accents yet unknown! JULIUS CAESAR
