They have always given their very best To support the school through “thick thin And cheer our teams on to win. They’ve come to games and brought their might And helped our “Buffaloes” to victorious nights. They worked in the Boosters Club, you see. To help finance uniforms for you and me. While during the 18 short years we’ve been busy Building and moving and making us dizzy, The Wimsetts have watched us with great anticipation Helping when they can with much cooperation. For their dedication to our school We’ve decided to bend a rule And give to these two ole friends of Georgetown This year’s book of laughs and frowns. For memories are what yearbooks are in the end. And Melvin and Celeste arc truly our friends. So a great big THANK YOU is over due From all of us at G.H.S. to each of you. Yearbook Staff 4 My congratulations to the students and staff of Georgetown High School on their successful move into the new High School. The leadership displayed the entire year by the class of 79, especially making the transition from the old building to the new, was most gratifying. I’m sure that success will come to each of you. Through the many years that there has been a Georgetown High School, many, many students have contributed to a past history which has formed traditions and a good name for Georgetown High School. In your four years here as a class, you have contributed your share to the further and enrich that tradition. You also have the distinction to have been the first to PRINCIPAL Robert Delmotte graduate from a “new” Georgetown High School. This is an opportunity afforded to only a few. If you face life’s opportunities as successfully as you have met this one, and the many others you have found in high school, you can have nothing but success. The faculty and staff of Georgetown High School offer their best wishes to you in whatever you choose to do with your life. Robert Delmotte Audrey Green Bookkeeper Hobbies: Reading and doing crafts. Starting with little knowledge of competitive volleyball. 24 ladies began to learn how to play exciting volleyball. Throughout the season the Buffalo Bumpers showed steady improvement. Gradually both teams developed a distinct style of team play. Captained by Cher re Lanter, the Junior Varsity compiled six match victories and 11 losses. The ladies awarded Cherre Lanter the most valuable player. Mary Buyno received the most improved player award. The Varsity experienced the agony of losing a lot of matches after winning the first or second game of the match. Finally the many practice hours were rewarded with defeats of Schlarman, Westville, Armstrong, and Bismarck. The tournament team of Conrad, Dalide, K. Lanter, Pionek, Lambert, Pasley, C. Lanter, M. This year’s football team showed its character and pride in the last 39 seconds of regulation play against a fine Catlin football team by making a great goal line stand, then winning the game in three overtimes. It was a game that, as a coach, I will long remember, and 1 know that the athletes who participated will feel the same. Joseph W. The Fresh-Soph Football Team has some bright prospects and some real go getters. Keith and Kevin Hughes are tough, reliable “natural” athletes. Brian Meeker came out after a couple of games and really shined on offense and defense. He’s strong and ornery. Brian Parke is an excellent prospect for next year. He’s consistently aggressive and possesses a native intelligence for the game. John Redmond grew in all aspects of the game. His running was especially strong in the last few games. Bruce McCloud had a brilliant first year in football. He has exceptional speed and “lightning fast” moves. Dave McFadden is an all around athlete who can be used in many situations. Scott Pearson plays well and has a great deal of natural ability. Brian Starwalt is “Mr. Aggressive” on defense and the best tackier on the team. Troy Brooks is tough and should help out on the varsity next year. Rick Pollard was exceptional on defense this year. These mentioned players were all standouts, but the success of the team was due to the dedication of all of the players. The boys Varsity basketball team enjoyed one of their most successful seasons in recent years. The Buffs finished the season with 21 wins and 9 losses, including a Regional Championship, their first in twenty-five years. Georgetown also finished second at the Rossville Holiday Tournament, second in the Vermilion County Tournament, and second in the Tuscola Regional. These young men were also awarded the Vermilion County Sportsmanship Award for the second year in a row. The season was highlighted by the completion of a new gymnasium, as well as the spirited support of our student body. We will sorely miss the four graduating seniors (Gary Sykes, Jeff Boggess, Kevin Pearson, and Tim Wyer), but we will certainly welcome the large group of underclassmen w'ho are returning. The team was held together by a fine group of Seniors including Mike Reynolds, Gary Smith and Dale Brooks. Mid-season injuries to Brooks and Reynolds and junior Tyrone Towns, sophomore Dave McFadden, and freshman Keith Hughes, all starters, slowed the team’s progress considerably. Fine young wrestlers, including Jeff Winland, Brian Starwalt, Troy Brooks, and Keith Hughes, and the steady improvement of senior Ron Saucer, helped the team to a final season record of 13-5. Tournament competition offered a great amount of individual satisfaction for several Georgetown Wrestlers. Capturing conference championships were Ron Saucer, Gary Smith and Jeff Winland. Saucer and Smith repeated their conference performances in the District competition with Winland adding a second, and also qualifying for the Sectional tournament. Gary Smith culminated a fine varsity career at Georgetown High School by realizing a dream of every wrestler by qualifying for the State Tournament at the Assembly Hall in Champaign. 26 Coach Cliffc BASEBALL TEAM Kneeling: Steve Stevens. Other activities this year included a Christmas party, N.H.S. breakfast, and the annual Donkey Basketball Game. 57 OFFICERS AND ADVISORS Front: Lori Sawyer, Secretary; Jeanette Lewis, Vice President. The activities were triggered by a weiner roast held at Forest Glen in October. This was followed by a successful November bake sale at the Georgetown Bank. Advent calendars were a big smash in December, along with costume jewelry. December was also a time for merry making and Spanish Club was not left out. A fiesta was held on December 18, complete with enchiladas, cookies, albondigas and plenty of Mexican hot chocolate. (A pinata which took long hours of work was sacrificed in celebration.) The “G” Club has once again come to life and is playing an active role in Georgetown High School. As one of the larger organization in school, “G” Club consists of all students who have won an athletic letter in a Varsity sport. This year “G” Club sold T-shirts in order to raise money. This money will be used to give every Senior member a bronze-plated plaque listing all that person’s athletic activities. Hopefully, this will become a traditional activity for the “G” Club each and every year in the future. Mr. McMurray Library Club Members of the Library Club are student aides. Their duties include checking out books and AV equipment, shelving, filling periodical and microfiche requisitions and being of service to students and faculty. Eligibility is not restrictive. A sense of responsibility and pride are the best requisites. The club has few money making projects. A raffle is planned for later in the school year. Last spring was the first, of what is hoped to be, an annual picnic at Forest Glen. Each member is encouraged to invite one guest. Ms. Tintorri Front: Mrs. Tintorri. Pep Club The goal of the Pep Club was to become more unified with the cheerleaders in supporting the teams this year. A bigger impact can be made with a group of people cheering the same phrases than with only a few small groups doing their own thing. Also we strived to only yell positive and encouraging words which would not only benefit our players but also make Georgetown's student body look impressive to the Georgetown adult fans as well as fans of other teams. A good job has been done by the club members so let's keep it up and build a tradition of good, clean sportsmanlike fans for Georgetown. Simply explained, the Polar Club is for people who realize the value running provides the body and mind, and the ignorance behind questions like, “Why do you run in the cold?” Mr. Kulbartz mv The Varsity Cheerleaders were responsible for sparking all that crowd enthusiasm at the Varsity Football and Basketball games the past year. In addition to this they had a busy summer making money to buy those sharp uniforms they look so great in. They hosted a dance at the Sport-man’s Club, had a car wash, bake sales, and a variety of other projects. Linda Furnish 64 Right to Left: Judy Carter, Terri Davis, Jeri Leigh Stephenson, Rhonda Emory, Lori Starwalt.and Jeanic Ruble The Jr. Varsity Cheerleaders have had a busy year. They cheered at the Jr. Varsity, Fresh-Soph, and Fresh Football games in the Fall. During the basketball season you could see their smiling faces at the Jr. Varsity and Fresh-Soph Basketball games. Besides cheering their teams onto victories, they also sponsored many money making activities; car washes, bake sales, pop bottle drives, raffles, etc. 65 Mascot This past school year marked the reappearance of a school mascot. Miss Sherri Burt dressed all in purple, was seen at many school sports events enthusiastically displaying her many gymnastics talents to the delight of the fans. Ms. Furnish PEPSTERS The Pepsters could be seen cheering at the X-Country meets, the wrestling matches, and helping out at the Track meets last spring. In playing her final season with the girls basketball team, Teresa displayed great courage, strength, and determination. She was undaunted in her performance and never gave in, whether it was a routine practice or an important game. We will miss the comraderie, the shoutfrtrf encouragement, and the patient, constructive criticism. We are a better team and better persons for having shared Teresa’s enthusiasm, dedication, and friendship. Ms. Bandy Teresa’s talents were evident to all but perhaps her greatest gift was her ability to share her happiness and smiles with those around her. In remembering Teresa let us remember those moments when she touched our lives with laughter. Ms. McCullough F Teresa Winland Softball season starts in March every year, and every year a coach wonders about the ability of the freshman class. In the spring of 1977, a freshman girl came out with a great deal of athletic ability. She would be able to play just about any position on the team. What a joy for any coach! Teresa Winland could catch, throw and hit the softball. Her freshman year found her playing shortstop, thus earning a varsity letter. Teresa played third base in her sophomore year, and hit a sizzling .483. Teresa always worked for the best of the team. She wanted to be a winner, and worked hard to be a winner. “We can do it. We are ahead, let’s keep going. Everybody gets a hit this time! Come on no errors this inning. You can steal on her!’’ These were her words of encouragement to everyone. We will remember her positive attitude and her smile, her hitting and her fielding, her friendliness and encouragement, her athletic ability, but most of all her ability to help us go to the limit of our ability. We will do our best for Teresa and the team. “Teresa, we know your encouragement and spirit will be with us for many years to come.’’ Ms. Patterson 82 JUNIOR CLASS ADVISORS: Mr. Millikcn Ms. Cohen, Ms. Arnold.
