This is due largely to the extremely fine efforts of the staff and students towards making the Georgetown schools the quality the community deserves. The Board of Education and administration wishes to thank the students and staff for their leadership in working towards helping Georgetown schools become outstanding. Gertrude Galyen, Secretary SUPERINTENDENT MR. BEHM OFFICE PERSONNEL Carolyn Ehlenfeld, Secretary Pet peeve: Tardy admits Karen Mikel, Secretary Pet peeve: Pen snatchers PRINCIPAL, MR. DAVIES In our changing society of today, I would like to caution people, of all ages, to be very careful about making changes just for the sake of change. 1 would like for changes to be made after all research available indicates the change will improve the conditions. What you have should not be torn down because of a dislike. Make sure you can improve upon the condition before you abandon the things you have. Mr. Davies Dorothy Ehrich, Secretary Pet peeve: Cars that pull into my lane and then stall. 19 TEACHERS 20 Max Call Science and Health. The main money-making project was the donkey basketball game. Everyone enjoyed watching the F.F.A. boys and a few brave girls ride the unpredictable donkeys. It was very successful. The G.H.S. students also enjoyed the two dances sponsored by N.H.S. A $150 scholarship was given to a senior for the following school year. N.H.S. Officers: President: J. Stal, V. Pres: J. Dukes. Officers for 1970-71 were elected, it was decided to sell candy, to have a Christmas party, and to take a trip in Spring. The Christmas party was held in December in the newly carpeted library. The candy sales were successful and thus provided funds for an additional social affair in spring. The trip this year was April 20 to the Illinois State Library and the Illinois Historical Library. We were accompanied by the Junior High Librarians. May 14 there was a joint student librarians and student projectionists club dinner at the Redwood The officers are: President, L. Galyen; Vice-President, J. Blcsscnt; Secretary, J. Gordon; Treasurer, Inn in Danville. c. Gray; Sponsor, R. January 27, we took our annual field trip to Champaign to CUES where a workshop in projection was conducted and to the new quarters of the VISUAL AIDS SERVICE of the University of Illinois. The Georgetown Chapter of the Future Farmers of America has had a highly successful and active year. The chapter has dedicated itself to community service activities with the Christmas parade, Santa house and Heart Fund Drive chairmanship being community service highlights. As the advisor of this group, I have been deeply gratified by the manner in which these young men have dedicated themselves to the FFA principles of leadership, character, and service. I think that the FFA at Georgetown High School this year truly has lived up to the FFA motto statement “living to serve”. The Banquet was complete with Spanish food (tacos, polio asado con arroz y sangria) and a movie. A busload of Spanish students enjoyed a field trip to the Champaign Assembly Hall to see a Spanish Ballet with Flamenco Dancers. This was preceded by a delicious meal at Italian Village! The Club sponsored various moneymaking projects throughout the year including a cake raffle, a hobo day, several bake sales and the annual Sweetheart Dance” to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Theme for the dance was the popular Love Story.” Debbie Chambers was crowned Queen. One of the highlights of 1970-71 was the three month visit of foreign exchange student Rafael Reyes from Bucara-manga, Colombia. G.H.S. students all helped to make him feel at home and were very interested in his hobbies, likes and dislikes, and culture of his country. Ideas were exchanged and friendships formed during his stay and we were very sad to see him leave. 80 Front Row: C. Hosier, K. Hinner, J. Ellis, B. Grider, J. Taran, C. Pribblc, J. Martin. P. The highlight of the season was the third place won in the Armstrong Frosh-Soph tournament. Individually, the team was led by strong rebounding from Curt Pearman. Captain Randy Mariage kept the team in a lot of games with his consistent scoring and Steve Rhoden kept the team moving with his aggressive defense.
