That relationship in numbers is deceiving, however, for five of those six boys who were graduated last spring scored forty-one points in the County Meet last year. Since track is a sport where qual- ity of performance is all that counts, and num- bers mean little, it would seem that the Buffaloes have a terrific task ahead to replace the great talent lost last spring. The team won all meets except two during a twelve meet season. Danville and Urbana each defeated the Buffaloes. His blocking could have a little more secure, but he managed to get lns end man in the NYestv1lle game which allowed Johnnie to get two long runs early in the game. Carroll was a good defender on passes, and did a fair job of tackling at the half- back spot. BILL MORRIS . . . a boy with good natural abil- ity but lacking speed. Bill reported to the squad late this year but played our defensive end after he became eligible. If he comes out determined to play next fall, he will Find one of our end posi- tions. liy practicing hard we think he is Capable of having a good season. DON NIER . . . a greatly improved player this year. The tougher the opposition, the better Don ran. His punting game played a vital part in the Hoopeston game and also against XYestville. If lion improves on pass defense, he will go far in being one of the Buffs' better backs next year. A fast and hard runner, he should be hard to stop next all. FRANK RE.-XIJNUIIR . . . a defensive standout in '52. Captain Frank was hard to stopg he always gave us all he had and, after each game. his name was high on the list for tackles made. His job was made extra hard as Captain this year as the boys were a group very hard to get keyed for a game, but Frank was always in there leading like a Captain should. XYENIDELL MORGAN . . . the lightest boy on the squad but the hardest and best taekler. Teamefl with John Lacey at hacking up the line next year, he will help our defense greatly. XYendell can kick, pass, and run and will probably find himself in the backheld in '5-1. lt is nice having him back another year. JOHN L.-XCHY . . . our regular center from the second game. John did a great job on offense and a veterans job on defense at backing up the line. He should be even greater next fall it' he works at Centering over the summer. He will he missed next year, but his defensive work will long remain in the minds of those who watched him. ROI! He has all the assets for he' ing a great leader in '54, and it' he improves next year, he will he one of the hest that's heen around. JOHN G.-XLYICN . . . a Fine player who loved con- tact and one who loved to pop 'em. l!illy was moved into the line this year and did very well at his new position. Another important joh that he handled was the centering on punts and extra points. He was the only hoy on the squad who could center the hall hack 10 yards. A regular for three years, he will he greatly missed come '54. JERRY LANTER . . a hig hoy with a big heart. Pinky didn't decide to play , football until the Paris game and was by far the outstanding line- man un the held. He never moved any faster than he had to, hut somehow managed to get his share of tackles. He did all of our extra point kicking and was average. His kickeoffs improved with each game, and he ended his career with a good game against XYestviile. IJANNY SMITH . . . the last of five Smith hrotllers to play foothall at Georgetown High. Julius does not have the natural ability that some boys possess, but was a very hard worker, He had great spirit and really loved the game, It's boys like Julius that make :1 football team. One needs boys to practice against and not just ll boys. RODNEY BROOKS . . . played a flawless game against Momence in place of Lacey, who was injured. Boys don't learn to play football in one year. Had Rodney stayed out his junior year, he would have gained that much needed experience. He attended every practice and always gave the varsity plenty of trouble in his steady charge and fine tackling. DON MYERS . . . injured in the early part of the season.
