In his senior year, he was captain of the basketball team. He participated in commercial contests in his junior year and won high honors in the district contests. In his senior year, he was elected to the National Honor Society. In April, 1941. he enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps. In December he was graduated from advanced training at Kelly Field, Texas. He received his commission as a second lieutenant five days after Pearl Harbor. On March 15. 1942, when only twenty-two years of age, he went West—a life finished when just beginning. Mario will long be remembered by his school friends and by his teachers, who appreciated what a splendid student he was. In consolation to all of his family and the friends he left behind, we can only say that his death has left an indelible impression on the memories of his comrades, and upon us with whom he spent his school days. His memory will inspire us to make the supreme effort to achieve the goal for which Mario himself made the supreme sacrifice— ultimate victory for the liberty-loving peoples of this war-weary world. 19
