THE DRAMATIC CLUB The Dramatic Club reorganized this year to supervise the dramatic work done in extra curricular activities. The club did not have regular meetings. All students who joined the Dramatic Club had participated in a play, a speech in an assembly program, or had represented the school in a speech contest. Those students in the speech contests this year were Elizabeth Campbell, Ellen Reagan and George Howlett. Elizabeth won second place for the humorous reading event in Vermillion County, and first place in the District contest in extempore speaking. Ellen won first in verse reading in the county and first in the sub-district. For the last two years the Dramatic Club has given an assembly program at Christmas time. This year a one-act play, Christmas Trimmings , by Marguerite Phillips, was presented. Red Carnations was another one-act play presented by the club for the basketball banquet. Donald Naudzius, George Howlett and Mary Sanders were in the cast and the presentation proved to be very clever. BOTTOM ROW—Wilma Newlin, Frances Lowandowski, Louise Richards. SENIOR BAND During the summer fifty-two members of the Georgetown High School Band worked in a summer school of music, and gave concerts on the square every Thursday night. In August they competed in the State Band Contest at Springfield and won second place in class B bands. Each student was awarded a medal, and the school received a silver trophy. In the school year music was furnished by the members at all football and basketball games. They broadcasted over WDAN in April. Music letters were given for the earning of 875 points. In the graduating class of 39 five seniors were awarded letters. Billy Clark won the medal for the most points earned this year. On April 2, the band played in the annual music concert, Chimes of Spring . They will also play for Baccalaureate and Commencement. The officers of the Band are as follows: President, O. C. MIXED ENSEMBLE In the spirit of the French troubadours sixteen valiant choristers banded together to blend their voices into the finer harmonies of song. With Udell Wolff as their accompanist, four sturdy basses and four bright tenors matched their rich voices with an octet of maidens whose beautiful soprano and alto tones completed the choir. As each Tuesday evening returned they assembled with their conductress, Aneita Hill, and their manager, Evelyn Roberts, to further their knowledge of the art of music. The hearts of many of life's weary soldiers were gladdened when they sang at the Veterans' Administration Facility. In the gay tones of spring they cheered their audience at the spring festival and even allowed the world to listen in from WDAN. These young people count it their greatest pleasure to carol and sing.
